Located right outside the Padmanabhaswamy Temple, it is a part of the Kuthiramalika Palace and was constructed by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Balarama Varma in 19th century who wanted to showcase the traditional Indian art forms. As you enter, you would see the typical Kerala-style architecture (Travancore) adorning portraits of the royal family and some beautiful wooden carvings.

The museum is named after the famous wall painting, ‘Kuthiramalika’ which has 122 wooden horses on the palace’s exterior, the reason why it is also known as the Horse Museum by some of the locals today. It also houses other interesting artefacts like ethnic jewellery, royal armoury, metal idols and wooden sculptures.
