Situated in Ri Bhoi district, towards the west of Shillong, the Diengiei Peak is a lofty mountain crest that offers breathtaking panorama of the low-lying plains. It is a few hundred feet lower than the Shillong Peak, which is considered the highest point in Meghalaya.

The peak can be accessed by driving on the motorable mountainous road or hiking up the hill. On reaching the pinnacle, visitors are welcomed by the stunning vista of Umiam Lake which looks beautiful from this high-altitude spot. The scenic city of Shillong appears in the background of this sparkling lake, making the view all the more mesmerising.

A large hollow in the shape of a cup is also present at this mountain crest. Some geologists believe that it is a crater formed by an extinct volcano that existed here during pre-historic times.
