Also known as the Masjid Melayu, Acheen Street Mosque was established in 1808. It is built on the land donated by an Achinese Aristocrat, Tengku Syed Hussain Al-Aidid. It became the centre for learning for the Muslims in Penang over the years.

The houses surrounding the mosque show the Arab development on the island. The mosque is only open for Muslims and people of other religion are not allowed to enter the mosque.
