A prominent landmark in the vibrant city of Mumbai, Mahalakshmi Race Course earns recognition as one of the finest horse racing circuits across the Asiatic continent. The grandstand of this historical racecourse finds mention in the list of heritage structures in the country. Owned by the Royal Western India Turf Club Limited (RWITC), it is a famous venue for classic racing events of the world.

Inspired by the classy Melbourne Caulfield Race Course, this horse-racing venue covers 225 acres of the sea-facing area in its namesake locale in the city. Its ground is oval in shape and has a 2400-metre long race track. Before the commencement of the racing period, more than 100 horses are trained rigorously. The racetrack witnesses a huge assemblage of affluent people between November and April. During these months, major racing events are organised here, including the Great Indian Derby on the first Sunday of February. Film stars, business tycoons, celebrities and other eminent personalities can be seen here during the racing season. Other classic Indian races organised here are 2000 Guineas, 1000 Guineas, St Leger and Oaks. Moreover, the classic architecture of this racecourse earns immense praise, which is why the government is attempting to retain its splendour.
