The Royal Exhibition Building is surrounded by the Carlton Gardens, which are a must see for every visitor. Like the Royal Exhibition Building, these gardens were also originally designed for the Melbourne International Exhibition of 1880.

These gardens are one of the most beautiful in Australia, to say the least. They boast of many exotic varieties of flora, elaborate fountains, lakes, parterre garden beds and significant avenues including the Southern Carriage Drive and Grande Allée. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Carlton Gardens are also a popular spot for picnics and barbecues among tourists and locals alike.
