Situated in Spituk, a part of the Indus River Valley, the Vajra Bhairav Shrine is counted amongst the oldest buildings in the region. This shrine is dedicated to Lord Vajra Bhairav, who is the tantric and guardian deity according to the Gelug-pa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. The deity is believed to possess supernatural powers, which is why his idol is hidden in a sanctum. Devotees can view this idol only once every year, on a special day. Beautiful paintings, more than 600 years old in origin, adorn the walls of this shrine.
