Known to be Asia's largest Planetarium, this single-storey circular structure flaunts typical Indian style of architecture with a resemblance to the Buddhist Stupa at Sanchi. Locally known as Taramandal, this planetarium was inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru- the first Prime Minister of India, on 2nd July 1963.

Stocked with an extensive collection of exquisite paintings and celestial models of famous astronomers, the astronomy gallery of the planetarium is its main attraction. The on-site astronomical observatory is equipped with a highly sophisticated Celestron C-14 Telescope and accessories like ST6 CCD camera and a solar filter that gives you a clear vision of the space. An electronics laboratory engaged in designing and fabricating science equipment is another highlight of the planetarium. With over 100 astronomical projects, Birla Planetarium enlightens its visitors about various facts of astronomy, astrophysics and myths associated with stars and planets. It is capable of accommodating up to 500 visitors at a time.
