Located south of Howrah Bridge, B. B. D. Bagh is the central business district of Kolkata city and the seat of power of the state government. Formerly known as Dalhousie Square, this region is dotted with some of the finest Victorian styled buildings, government offices, banks and marketplaces. The region is named after Benoy, Badal and Dinesh – the three freedom fighters who were hung in 1905 by the British during the protests against the partition of Bengal.

The presence of several offices in B. B. D. Bagh has earned it the nickname 'Office Para', which means a locality of offices. General Post Office, Telephone Bhawan, St. John's Church and the statue of Maharaja Lakshmeshwar Singh (a renowned philanthropist) are some of the important landmarks in this neighbourhood. Here, you will find many roadside food vendors who sell food items at cheap prices.
