Known as 'Mother Church of the Indian Armenians', the Armenian Church of the Holy Nazareth is a beautiful place to visit. Possibly the oldest in Kolkata city, this Armenian Apostolic church is located conveniently in Barabazar's northwest corner. The structure that stands today is a reconstruction of the old Armenian Church that was built in 1688 and destroyed after an ill-fated fire incident.

The church's holy Nazareth structure and inherent religious significance attracts many visitors from different corners of the state and beyond. Built from marble, this church boasts of an eye-catching fa├žade and exquisite interiors. On its upper floor, there is a gallery whose walls are graced with attractive frescoes and paintings. In the altar, you can find a cross, the Gospel text and a dozen of candlesticks symbolising Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ. 'Holy Trinity', 'Last Supper' and 'The Enshrouding of Our Lord'- the three paintings by AE Harris add charm to the altar. There are several rooms in the church, some of which contain the old Armenian cemetery's remnants.
