Within the popular Viswanath Temple stands a small shrine called the Nandi Temple. It is dedicated to Nandi Bull, which is considered to be the mount or vahana of the Hindu Lord Shiva. As per Hindu mythology, Nandi also serves as a gatekeeper of Lord Shiva and His wife Goddess Parvati .

Almost every temple dedicated to the Hindu Lord Shiva enshrines an image of a seated Nandi, mostly facing the main shrine. This temple is no exception and shares a common terrace with the shrine dedicated to God Viswanath (Lord Shiva). The shrine is an open-square structure resting on twelve pillars. Enshrined in this temple is a colossal statue of Nandi, which is 2.2 metres long and 1.8 metres high.
