The Temple of the Tooth is the most sacred Buddist shrine in the world. The magnificent shrine houses the sacred Danta Dhatu (Sinhala: Tooth Relic of Buddha) (left canine). The temple is located right next to the beautiful man-made lake Kiri Muhuda meaning Milk Sea in Sinhalese. The lush green Udawattakele Forest Sanctuary forms the perfect background for the temple.

The Holy Tooth Relic was brought to Sri Lanka from India during the reign of King Sirimeghavana (303-331 AD) of Lanka. On a visit to the temple, you will not only feel the spirituality soar through your veins but you will also be in awe of the scenic beauty that surrounds the temple.
