Shri Govindjee Temple is a prominent place of worship for the Vaishnavite cult in Imphal. Built by King Churachand, this temple complex features a beautifully manicured vatica (garden), a lake and open space with lofty trees. It is believed that the idol of the presiding deity, Lord Shri Govindjee was brought here from the old Govindjee Temple of the Kangla Palace.

Boasting of exemplary Nagra style of architecture, this temple rests on an elevated square-shaped base. The temple features an inner sanctum and a porch with massive pillars. The two large golden domes, skilfully crafted cornice and beautifully designed fences with intermittent mini-shrines are quite a sight to behold. At the temple's inner sanctum, the idol of Lord Govindjee and statues of Lord Krishna, Lord Balaram, Lord Jagannath and Goddess Shubhadra are enshrined.

Priests and devotees perform rituals and sing hymns to praise the Lord. The auspicious occasion of Janmashtami (birthday of Lord Krishna) is celebrated with great enthusiasm at the temple. Shri Govindjee Temple is one of the largest religious sites in Manipur and is truly worth a visit.
