Golden Bauhinia Square gets its name from the blooming Bauhinia (also known as Hong Kong orchid) sculpture that stands there. The sculpture was a gift from the Central Government on the 1997 Handover of Hong Kong to China after 150 years of British rule. This event is of great significance and historical importance for Hong Kong. A 15-minute flag raising ceremony along with the singing of the National Anthem takes place at Golden Bauhinia Square at 7:50 am daily (excepting the first of every month). This place is also the best spot to enjoy spectacular views of Victoria Harbour and watch the Symphony of Lights Show.
