The Sukreswar Temple id dedicated to Lord Shiva and is famous for being the abode of the sixth Jyotirlinga of India. The temple was constructed in 1744 by Ahom King Pramatta Singh. The temple is located on the Itakhuli Hill (Sukreswar hill) by the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra River. A long step of stairs leads down to the river from the temple complex. According to the Hindu legends, if the post death rituals and rites of any person is performed at this temple than the dead person would attain moksha or salvation.
