Basilica of Bom Jesus is a UNESCO World Heritage situated in Old Goa. It is considered to be one of the best examples of baroque architecture in India. Basilica of Bom Jesus contains the tomb and mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier, founder of the Society of Jesus. The construction of the Basilica started in the year 1594 and was completed in 1605. It took 9 years in completion of this beautifully architecturally well developed basilica. The laterite stone, of which the building is constructed, is not plastered because it was considered the durability of the building would strengthen by itself. It is a architectural masterpiece and a must visit when in Old Goa.
