The area under the St. Pierre’s Cathedral has recently undergone extensive excavation which has in turn revealed a site rich in history dating back to the Roman Empire.

The excavation also revealed the presence and remains of other churches that preceded the St. Pierre’s Cathedral. Apart from that the excavation site also holds evidence of other pre-Christian settlements in the area.
