The Tibet House Museum was founded in 1965 by the Dali Lama to conserve and celebrate Tibetan culture, while providing a centre for Tibetan and Buddhist studies. The museum contains Tibetan artifacts such as old coins, thankas (Buddhist paintings), currency notes, prayer beads, headgear and more. Apart from that the museum complex also houses a library, a conference area, a gallery, a resource centre and a book shop.
