Located in Chandni Chowk, the Ajmeri Gate was built on a square base and boasts of high arches. The Ajmeri Gate derives its name from the fact that the road which ran from this gate led to Ajmer in Rajasthan. The gate is surrounded by a park and a madrasa built in 1811 by Nawab Ghaziuddin Bahadur, the son of the first Nizam of Hyderabad.

On the west side of the madrasa lies a tomb and a mosque. The Ajmeri Gate was also the site of India’s First War for Independence in 1857. Most of the walls of the Ajemri Gate have been pulled down for the sake of constructing commercial buildings, but the gate to the west is still standing.
