Established in 1968, the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology is a self-governing research institute which is part of the Department of Science and Technology (Government of India). The Wadia institute has been named after Late. Professor D.N Wadia for his immense contribution to Geology. The institute is involved in research related to geodynamic evolution and mountain building process, natural resources and seismotectonics among other areas of study. The institute is well equipped with a laboratory with modern equipment manned by qualified scientists and technicians and a library with 25000 books and journals related to geology. The Wadia Institute also has a small museum which seeks to educate students as well as the general public about various elements of Geology.
