Established by the seventh Sikh Guru, Ram Rai in the seventeenth century, the Ram Rai Gurudwara is one among the oldest in Dehradun. The Gurudwara is a famous place of pilgrimage and is visited by many devotees regularly. It is believed that after Guru Ram Rai was banished from his native place he came and settled in Dehradun and built a Gurudwara in the city. The Gurudwara contains the Adi Granth Sahib, the holy books of Sikhs and has a large dining hall where free meals cooked in the Gurudwara’s community kitchen are served free to everyone. This Gurudwara is also the centre of the Jhanda Festival which is held five days after holi every year.
