Larger than the Buckingham Palace, the Forest Research Institute (FRI) is India’s leading and one of its kind institutes in the field of forest research. Established in 1906, the FRI is one of the oldest institutes in India and was recognized as a deemed university in 1991. Located on a lush green campus spread over 450 hectares, the FRI was constructed by the British and till date remains one of the grandest buildings built during colonial rule. A combination of Greco-Roman and Colonial architectural styles, the FRI has a plinth area of 2.5 hectares. The FRI’s fully equipped campus comprises of laboratories, libraries and herbariums. The FRI is also home to museums such as the Pathology Museum, Social Forestry Museum, Silviculture Museum, Timbra Museum, Non-Wood Forest Products Museum and the Entomology Museum. Visitors can also take advantage of guided tours on the campus of the FRI which take place daily.

  • Opening Closing Time Guided tours operate from 9 am to 1 pm and then from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The FRI Museum is open from 9:30 am to 5 pm daily.
