A popular place of religious importance, the Somnath Mahadev Temple is located in Dabhel village, Daman. There are many legends associated with the origin of the temple. According to one of them, a Shivalinga miraculously appeared at this spot after many prayers by a monk who was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. The natives regarded this site as sacred and built a shrine of Lord Shiva in the year 1974. In the later years, renovations were done, and the temple was decorated with beautiful glasswork.

Most prominent among the festivals is the 'Gangaji Fair', which is celebrated once in a year with keen interest and energy. A huge Lokmela also takes place in the temple, during Mahashivratri – Lord Shiva's birth occasion. The temple witnesses a huge influx of devotees on Mondays, the auspicious day to worship Lord Shiva.
