Museum of Art and Kerala History is a notable tourist attraction of Edappally, near Kalamassery. It is an ideal place to acquaint yourself with the rich heritage of the state. The idea of establishing the museum was put forth by R. Madhavan Nayar, a renowned industrialist and an art aficionado.

The first thing that will capture your attention as you step inside the museum is a big statue of Sage Parasurama, who supposedly created Kerala by reclaiming the land from the sea. Exhibitions, demonstrations, literary discussions, art fairs and performances are organised at the museum on a regular basis.

The museum houses about 50 sculptures created by famous artists like D.P. Roy Chaudhary and Sarbari Chaudhary. There is also a 25 feet long and 5 feet wide mural painting, depicting a scene from the popular Sanskrit drama Shakunthalam by Kalidasa. Do not miss to explore the Gallery of Miniatures and Art Gallery, where you will be amazed to see some marvellous artwork. Interestingly, there is another museum within the complex, called the Dolls Museum, which has more than a hundred dolls and traditional costumes on display. Moreover, to give you an insight into the history of Kerala, an interesting Light and Sound Show is held here.
