Established in the year 1969, this street market comprises of almost a hundred shops that are lined in a row opposite the Chennai Railway station in the old part of the city. Managed by Burma Tamizhar Marumalarchi Sangam (traders association since 1966), this market was started by the Burmese immigrants who came from Myanmar few decades back.

The market is a hit with both tourists and locals as many foreign goods are sold here at economical prices. From DVDs to electronics, perfumes to Swiss chocolates, saris to shoes, you’ve got it all under one roof. However, it is good to double check the product you’ve bought to avoid any duplicity.
