Also known as Esnoga, Portuguese Synagogue is one of the most important landmarks of the legacy of the Jews in Amsterdam. The construction started in 1671 and was completed by 1675. It was among the largest buildings of its time in Amsterdam. The grand architecture of the synagogue is symbolic of the confidence, wealth and position that the Jews enjoyed prior to the Holocaust. The striking wooden interiors of the Portuguese Synagogue are very fascinating too.
