Amsterdam is a year round destination. However, the peak tourist season is between May and August when the weather is at its best. Here’s a monthly breakup of Amsterdam’s climatic conditions so you can plan when to go:

May to August: Amsterdam enjoys pleasant weather from May to August. However, carry light sweaters as it might get cold in the evenings. The spring Tulip Festival takes place in May and draws many tourists to the city who come to see the beautiful tulips in full bloom. This is also a good time to explore the city on a cycle, which is an experience you must not miss. Come June and you can attend two of Amsterdam’s popular summer festivals - Open Garden Days and Roots Festival. If visiting Amsterdam during this time, be sure to make all your bookings months in advance as the hotel rates and airfares are at their peak from May to August.

September to November and March to April: If you wish to explore Amsterdam in the off-season, this is the time to go. Hotel rates are comparatively cheaper and tourist attractions are less crowded during these months in Amsterdam. However, Amsterdam Film Week held in November draws many tourists to the city in this season. March is the advent of spring and the largest flower garden in the world, Keukenhof, opens its gates to the world in the third week of March.

December to February: December to February are the coldest months in Amsterdam. It also snows in these months and if you are lucky, the snow might get hard enough to be suitable for skating. Make sure you pack a lot of woollens and enough layers to keep yourself warm.
