Located 7 kilometres southwest of Ahmedabad in the village of Makraba, Sarkhej Roza is an elegant architectural structure comprising various buildings grouped around a stepped tank. These include a mosque and a mausoleum. It is also known as ‘Ahmedabad's Acropolis’ since its design is often compared to the famous Acropolis of Athens. Initially, Sarkhej Roza was a prominent centre of Sufi culture and where the Sufi saint, Ganj Baksh lived. It was built by Mohammad Shah in his honour. Unlike other mosques, it does not have an arch shaped entrance but a flat roof with 10 flat domes and 120 pillars instead.
