An unplanned trip with the family of 4, we chose the Makkithitta Homestay based on feedback and comments on HolidayIQ and this was a real treat.
A nicely planned and laid out property with an awesome view of the **** fields and a stream that flows by it. I thought I saw a swimming pool in the photographs but you wouldn't really be using it. The rooms are **** and span like you would do see at your mother's place! The food is prepared by the lady of the house and is absolutely delicious. The primary cuisine is that of a vegetarian but the variety will keep amazed of the Kannadiga's palate!
The closest village square is about 4km from the property although there's generally no reason you would want to go there for anything except to refill spirits. If you're in the mood for it there's a short trek up a temple hillock and a small waterfall close to the estate that can be arranged for with a jeep guide at about INR1000 per vehicle. It works cheaper if you go on these Tours as a group and spend about half a day out in the water.
I definitely will recommend this to you if you're going to relax away from the maddening city and in the lap of nature.

Go to Makkithitta Sakleshpur for a serene experience away from the maddening crowds. The most hospitable hosts you'll ever meet. Special home cooked food by the lady of the house that'll leave you craving for more even after you have left from there with a lot of difficulty.
There's a waterfall and a temple hillock nearby that you could go with your 4x4 or a Safari and spend half a day or so relaxing after a trek. Wonderfully clean premises, the home stay. There's a stream that flows by their fields for a brisk walk. Then there's the magic show from the man of the house that'll keep you wondering for time to come. No restrictions. Go there and leave your comments here for sure.

Really a very good home away from home especially for Bangaloreans just about 280 Km away, with all modern facility. Food and hospitality is very good. Very nearer to the nature with activities like forest trekking, play in a flowing river (Hemavathy River) can find lot of Deer and Peacocks. Mind-blowing huge coffee estates, can also view summer.
