I stayed at Amanvana resort with my wife for 5 nights and 6 days; this is a long enough duration to assess the overall quality of stay at any hotel. I travel a decent bit and almost always stay at four or five star hotels, so I know very well what to expect from such places. At the outset, I will say that the experience at Amanvana was disappointing and I'm definitely not going back there. However, in our opinion there were three aspects that we enjoyed a lot at Amanvana: (I) the river trek, (ii) the various treatments that were offered at the spa, and, (iii) the overall landscaping and lush greenery in and around the resort. Moreover, the staff were extremely courteous and prompt with whatever requests we made. The biggest disappointment was the sole restaurant at the resort rainbow room. In total, we had 13 meals there, which is long enough to judge the quality of service and food. It was almost always in chaos and disarray (we could also often hear loud noises coming from the kitchen, as if people were fighting and arguing inside). The breakfast buffets were mediocre at best. The only silver lining in the lunch and dinner buffets were the "Coorgi" dishes, which both of us enjoyed. The north Indian dishes were almost always below average. Whenever we ordered dishes a-la-carte, something went seriously wrong. In one instance, the pieces of meat on the non-veg platter were so hard and inedible, that I had to ask for the manager and chef. The chef inadvertently admitted that he knew the pieces were hard (as a result of "ice", implying that they were being deep frozen after marinating), but served them nevertheless. Over the course of our stay there, they quite often took more than an hour to bring out the food (the restaurant wasn't crowded), ended up bringing the wrong dish and even served a "fresh lime soda" to my wife with four long strands of human hair and eyelashes floating in it. Unfortunately, given the rather isolated nature of the resort, we had no option but to continue eating there (thankfully, we were able to venture out on one of the days and go to Taj Madikeri for lunch). It also appeared that the maintenance of the bungalows is not a priority at the resort. There was some sort of electrical problem at our bungalow (#107) for the first 2 days (in fact the cover of the electrical panel was just hanging loose). Some of the lamps in our bungalow were flickering like disco lights and functioning as per their whims. There were similar problems with the electrical outlets. It was only after our *fifth* complaint during the course of two days that they finally took it seriously and fixed the problem, instead of just resolving the problem at the outset. Many of the "banana-leaf" shades at the bungalow were damp and had large stains from likely previous instances of getting wet. The resort manager came to speak to us only on the fifth day of our stay (he wasn't aware of any of our complaints) and seemed surprised to hear about some of our experiences. Despite having paid a nightly tariff of more than 11, 000 rupees, the experience was awful. Needless to say, we are not going to recommend Amanvana to our relatives, friends or colleagues.

Location of the hotel is good, but I won't recommend it for couples. In washroom, there was no handwash, not even light bulb. Cleanliness was OK. They did provide towels also. I think it's good only for bachelors who just want to spend the night.

Very old constructed rooms. Old type of facilities. Old TV, not working properly. Food is not that great. Bathrooms are very small. Telephones are not working. It doesn't worth even 1/4 of the money which I have paid.

The resort has plenty of leisure activities to indulge the whole family, from kids to senior citizens, with right balance of sports, culture and entertainment. A stroll in the wide expanse of the resort is recommended. On the downside, the resort can get pretty crowded during holiday seasons and the restaurants are quite pricey.

Cottage carpet area would have been more but bathroom might have improved about the flooring, interiors and cleanliness. However the location and the landscape, greenery were very nice. Finally the food quality was good but they must have more variety of items in meals.

Serene place. Road to the hotel is awful but once you're inside its very good. Dinner is tasty and you have sports to play. Overall a worthy trip.. Good view all around. Nalnad palace is close by and there is a small waterfall within the premises. Note: Fairy tale rooms are at a fair distance from the happening place. It's a tough walk up and down. There is no intercom and mobile network is invariably down hence you need to plan your visits down. Also they don't provide toothbrush and paste.

The location of the hotel is good as it is very near to the Raja's seat in Madikeri. The hotel needs immediate maintenance as the rooms smell bad. Not good for family stay ... The breakfast is okay for Rs 99 charged per head .. The hot water facility is good which is a must in Coorg ..

As title suggests the hotel was pretty average, location is a place, situated in heart of Coorg in Madikeri. Raja's seat and tomb is 2 km and 1km respectively. Hotel looks gloaming due to poor lighting. In terms of cleanliness, it is average. Price is a big plus, if looking for stay @ cheap price. It is a good option.
