Ease out relax and have a lovely stay at the Dongarmatha!
We decided to halt at Chiplun for a night on our way to Goa. The only place that sort of made sense was Dongarmatha, as it is an eco-resort and we prefer staying at places that are less commercial and more eco-friendly. In this respect Dongarmatha is great. The actual rooms are quite basic but this is what we were looking for - the floors are made of dried mud and cow-dung - which keeps the whole place cool and the construction is of wood and minimal concrete.
The views are not the best in the whole region, but they certainly are the best that you can get from a hotel / home-stay property, especially at this price point. The food is decent home cooked food made over a 'chulha' or wood-fired stove.
There aren't too many activities in the area, apart from a couple of nature walks and a crocodile boat ride (which was actually rather good. ) If you're a birder then you will have a lot to look out for. The amenities are basic as well and cater more towards families than couples or single travellers.

We paid Rs. 2000-2500 per day. I faced no problem to reach this hotel. Staff services were very good. Food quality was fine. Rooms were neat and clean. It was a good place for relaxation with family. They did not provide any facility like TV, geyser, etc in the room.

Dongarmatha as it says is at the head (top) of a hill and probably the highest point in Chiplun. It overlooks a valley and river in the distance. From the resort one can get view of the sun - sunrise to sunset. Sometimes it can make you feel like God or an angel since the clouds are below us.
The resort is made up of mostly natural material and the people there take care of your needs very well. Food is costly and very tasty. You can have masala tea or herbal tea as you demand it.
Openness and nature are a pure thrill. We had treks early morning in the forest nearby and spotted various birds which we never saw before with Binoculars that the resort provided. Children could play natural games like as adults used to play when we were young. Forest treks provided us insights on how nature functions. One of our trips during our stay was to the lake by a speed boat where we saw numerous migratory birds and few crocodiles.
While the pictures stay on our computers, the memories stay with us forever. We will certainly visit Dongarmatha again since it is only a 5 hour drive from Mumbai. My family has mentally planned a visit already during the coming monsoon.
