Hotel is well situated on the waterfront but unfortunately it sticks out like a sore thumb and doesn’t fit in with the rest of the old world charm that is Montreux. Check-in was fast and clinical, some hotels need to vet their reception staff to make sure they actually have a personality and like people. Booked in for four days and was given a room on the third floor with a partial lake view after requesting a high floor. The room was small, typical European with a bath/shower in one combination. The step up into the bath was some 70cm and no safety handrail in the event of a slip. The positioning of the large bulky tap and shower on the side of the bath made showering awkward for a large person. The Europeans still don't understand what a double bed is. A single large mattress, not two singles pulled together. The room was clean and tidy, maybe in need of a face lift but adequate for its purpose. The lift was only large enough for two people and one suitcase, waiting was a continual occurrence. Breakfast was good with quite a few choices. It was nice to have scrambled eggs actually made from real fresh eggs and not from a packet. The fruit salad was one of the best I have had in my many travels and with a very friendly attentive staff one was always made to feel welcome.
Back to that shower/bath and the 70cm step up. Yes I became a victim, my back foot slipped as I was stepping down and I fell head first into the opposite wall hitting my elbow, hip and knee on the way. It hurt quite a lot and by the morning my elbow had swollen to twice its size. I reported this to reception and they immediately called a taxi and sent me to the Montreux Hospital where an x-ray revealed a fractured bone in my elbow. Beware of medical costs, they are extremely high in Switzerland, on par with the USA. On returning by taxi, paid by the Hotel, I was given a new room with a shower and no bath but I noticed this shower had safety rails around the shower. I am skeptical as to the motives in this move, was it to help me or was it to limit any further liability. Possibly both! Anyway my new room had a proper double bed and a perfect lake view for which I am grateful but it was an expensive and painful way to achieve the outcome. This will be an ongoing saga.
As an experience, Eurotel Riviera would rate 6.5 out of 10, value for money only a 4. As a location Montreux is fabulous with a lot of attractions close by.
