Best hotel so far on our Trafa....

We came to this hotel as part of a Trafalgar tour group. Hotel is older; there is no air conditioning in our rooms, so might be a problem in the summer. But room had adequate space and the facility is beautiful. We found front staff and wait staff to be quite friendly. Hotel is right near town center. Very nice.

Rude!

Old hotel in need of upgrade but has a certain chic to it typical older European hotel but incredibly rude staff including front desk restaurant staff and particularly the bar. I don’t think they could have be more unhelpful. Every simple request was met with rudeness.

good and centrally located hot....

We spent a night at the Grand Hotel Europe during a long holiday weekend. The room was fine and sleeping comfort ok, though the amenities of the room were a little on the basic side. There were numerous Korean and Chinese tour groups in the hotel, which can create a fair amount of noise late at night and early morning. The hotel is quite centrally located - a less than 15 mn walk on the lakeside promenade to the Swiss transport museum, 20 min walk towards the old town. Breakfast was ok - fortunately the tour groups had left by the time we made it to the breakfast room....

Supposedly 4* but some lost in....

I recently stayed at the Grand Europe Hotel in Lucerne for two nights. The façade is impressive as it the foyer area but for what claims to be a 4* hotel, anything else is very sadly lacking. When I looked at the floor “map” on the back of my door, my room, 241, wasn’t the smallest on the floor, and there were also some suites. The suites maybe 4* but the other rooms certainly are not. My room had a small balcony, which was very welcome as I slept with the door open as the room was too warm and stuffy. I had a sneak peek into some of the empty rooms and they are all much the same as mine. There is a tiny shelf in the bathroom, certainly not enough room for two people, barely for one. The in-room safe is very high up on the top shelf of the wardrobe. I actually measured it and from the floor to the base of the safe it is 178cm and to the top of the safe it is 195cm. Not very user friendly. The bed was comfortable – first time I have slept on a latex mattress, and the pillows were good – not too soft. I only ate breakfast at the hotel, which seems to cater mainly for tour groups, and the dining room was divided up that way. The breakfast offerings were quite basic. The bread section was the poorest that I have encountered in Europe – one type of sliced cake, some sliced bread and a few tiny bread rolls. On the first day the meat cold cuts were three very similar types of very cheap sausage meat and one type of sliced cheese. On the second day, there was no change to the bread/cake selection but the meat and cheese section offered a slightly better choice than yesterday. However, this may have been because we were there at opening time. Hot dishes were deep fried bacon, sliced sausage and scrambled eggs. Adequate, but not 4*. On the “plus” side we had all been given a 2 day pass on the local transport buses, which stopped almost outside the hotel. WiFi was included and relatively fast, but the only instructions for logging on were at the front desk – there was no hotel information in the room.

Beautiful hotel.

This hotel is withing walking distance of the Chapel Bridge built in 1333 & all the restaurants & shops. There are snow capped mountains all around & it is across the street from the lake. The hotel has a beautiful dining room & the food was delicious. Our room was really nice & clean.
