I wasn’t expecting to stay here but my company had confused my booking and I had to find a place at short notice. I have to confess that I found this on the web and chose it because it was a reasonable price and I knew where it was.
But it didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed my stay, which was really comfy, although I could have benefited from a second pillow on the bed.
Service was pleasant and helpful.
The hotel has a lovely spot, right by the banks of the River Rhine, although for what I paid I didn’t get a view of the river ??

Great Potential but a Massive ....
This hotel is beautiful placed on the river and conveniently placed for exploring Basel, everything else is a Massive let down. I really don't understand how this Hotel has managed to obtain 4 Stars, it's a 2 or at a very push a 3 Star Hotel by UK standards.
So potentially it could have a very nice entrance on the main Street as you cross the bridge or even on the river but these are given up to the restaurant entrance and a few shops and the hotel itself is left with a very shabby and unwelcoming entrance down a side street (as much as you want it to improve, this unfortunately really does set the tone for the rest of the Hotel).
The rooms are aweful, with very old unkept furniture, the bathroom again is very old looking, there is absolutely nothing in or about the room that has any element of luxury about it (not even in its day). If you do choose to stay here you MUST book a river view room as the alternative isn't very inspiring.
We never tried the Hotel restaurant for our evening meal because of the rest of the Hotel feeling so shabby and unloved, we didn't want to experience yet another let down. All that said, the restaurant has a beautiful outlook facing the Rhein and an outside patio area. When you stay B&B (as we did), you would think because of where the restaurant is situated with its lovely view on the Rhein, that the Hotel would use this to enhance their Hotel guests experience during breakfast but NO, breakfast is served in a small uninviting room looking out on to a side street.... again the Hotel was the potential of creating a lovely breakfast experience by using its main restaurant but chooses not to (it almost feels like the guests are worthy of anything good the hotel might be able to offer).

Amazing stay beyond expectatio....
I had read all the reviews and lot of them were not so encouraging. However my experience was more then great with them. River view room is definately worth it. Front office was very supportive
Breakfast was excellent and lady in charge was warm and kind. Step out from the hotel and you are in Market and in old city. I was there for 5 days and will definitely stay there on my next visit too

Great view if you ask for a hi....
My husband and I stayed here in early December to see the Christmas market. We had a view of the Rhine which was beautiful ( but ask for a high floor). The rooms however were TERRIBLE. Small, cramped, inadequate lighting ( only one SMALL lamp that was of low wattage), and just plain bad. The hallways unkept and dingy. The ONLY redeeming quality was the view.

Stayed here for a night to see the Christmas markets. Very friendly checkin lady, for a bit extra got a room facing the river which was definitely worth it. A small balcony but incredible views! The room was nice and clean, bathroom was clean as well. Didn't stay for breakfast as we got cheaper food in the morning from a bakery. Perfect location to go into the markets, just across the bridge and a short walk and you are at the markets. Received free tickets for public transportation as well, but chose to walk.
