Costa Adeje Adult only hotel

Hotel first class and this was an adult only hotel. Stayed last week and could not fault the staff or service from hotel. Rooms and hotel were very clean. Food was buffet style and Spanish restaurant worth a visit too. Nothing was too much trouble and would definitely revisit. Entertainment every night.

Over rated

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at this hotel for 1 week in May 2018. We were so excited as the RIU is a popular and well known brand and we were expecting the hotel to blow us away. From the reviews we read prior to staying at the hotel I would say it is pretty overrated. The hotel is adult only, however I would not recommend staying at the hotel unless you are 40+ as there were a lot of older people staying at this hotel and we felt very uncomfortable as the other guests in the hotel seemed to be very patronising and judging. The hotel entertainment is next to nothing. There is a band that plays every night I think, however we went out each night and when we returned at even 11pm there was no music or anything on and not a lot of people left at the bar, so the band must finish relatively early. There are no activities on during the day and also no music at all at the pool. The pool was absolutely freezing cold, and although we hadn’t had the best weather I wouldn’t expect the pool to be as cold as it was - I would say there was about 2 people in the pool maximum from what we saw during our stay. The breakfast buffet is quite good and even offers free champagne, however at the evening buffet you have to purchase your own drinks. The food is repetitive and it is the same each night. The al a Carte restaurant requires booking, however we didn’t as there was nothing on the menu that either of us would eat - the food was octopus etc. I was most disappointed with the spa facilities. The indoor ‘pool’ looks relatively big in the pictures, however it is actually a jacuzzi and it was cold so we couldn’t even sit in it. We went back again another two times and again it was freezing and once it was out of order. The steam room was also in no condition to use as there was scalding hot water dripping from the ceiling which was dripping on to us. The night we arrived we had 10 minutes to catch dinner which they told us we could try to make so it was very rushed. On our last night they told us that we couldn’t eat dinner in the hotel unless we paid for it however we had paid for a half board package. We also spoke with another two couples who had the same issue and were very disappointed by this. There is a safe in the room which is 15 euros. You can ask for an iron if needed and they will deliver it to your room. The hotel is very clean and very modern looking. You must take trousers for dinner even in the buffet if you are male or they will not allow you to eat in the restaurant. Location wise it is further out in Costa adeje so it’s about a 15 minute walk to the restaurants and bars. You can get the bus to las Américas for 2.90 Euro for 2 people which takes about 30 minutes. A taxi back from las Américas is about 15 euros. Siam park is about 15 minutes away as well so not far at all.

Fabulous chilled holiday

Huge, very clean and modern hotel close to the beach. We are in our mid twenties and although we were definitely the youngest there it did not bother us as we went out for drinks most nights and there are some lovely bars and restaurants nearby. We walked everywhere (about an hour to Playa de las Americas and 15 minutes to the centre of Adeje). Definitely the posher end of Adeje so can be expensive to go out but the beach club nearby is lovely and drinks in the hotel very reasonable. Buffet food good although did get repetitive so we found ourselves wandering out for late lunches or dinners instead. Had the most fabulous dinner at La Torre del Mirador which is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Our room 3004 overlooked the car park but we did not hear any of the building noise which was fab. All the staff very helpful and room was cleaned spotlessly every day. Location wise it was perfect for us as if you are fit you can still walk to the busier parts for bars/pubs in about half an hour. 20 minutes ish to the Plaza del Duque shopping centre and about an hours walk to Siam Park and 40 minutes to Puerto Colon for the boat trips. The Altamira Chill Out bar five minutes from the hotel down the steps is well worth a visit for amazing cocktails. Great relaxing holiday and would 100% recommend the Riu Arecas for younger couples looking for a more chilled holiday within walking distance of the busier parts.

Pretty disappointing after the....

The majority of the staff are polite enough and the hotel is very clean and if it weren't for the incredibly rude manager at the end of our stay it would have been pushing 3. It is listed as an adult hotel so when we booked it we didn't realise it would be quite such an old crowd. There is absolutely no music during the day and I recommend no one under 40 books this hotel. It is located in the posh part of town and it seems everyone in the hotel is very very posh and it can make you feel pretty uncomfortable. A lot of judging eyes. Don't be fooled by what the hotel describes as great indoor facilities and spa. It is not. As we were unlucky enough to have poor weather, we went inside to use the facilities and the jacuzzi, which on the first day was relatively cold and the next time we used it it was absolutely freezing and then the third time the room was out of order. The steam room had water dripping in it and was scalding my skin when it dropped so we couldn't use that either. Location wise it is not ideal. Only 15 euros in a taxi to las Americas but nothing really close to the hotel that you can walk to for a beer or a spot of lunch. The bus is handy but it's still a hassle to get. I would definitely recommend staying in a hotel in a better location. The food in the hotel is pretty decent, although repetitive. And the fact that they do not offer a drink with your meal shows they are after your money, same as with charging for the safe etc. On the last day we checked out we went for out last meal (we had only eaten in the hotel a few times over the stay) and the waitress asked us if it was our last day. We answered yes and she said I have to get the manager. The manager with dark hair and glasses, rather large, came over and instead of even saying hello simply said "English or Dutch". We said English and he said sorry but your meal is not included so you have to pay for this meal. I thought it was an absolute disgrace that this was the case considering the money we had paid for our holiday. He didn't even apologise or try to compromise he simply wanted more money. Shows a lack of class to its customers and just shows what this hotel is all about. Do not recommend.

Brilliant hotel shame about th....

This is our second time visiting this hotel. The Riu Arecas is a lovely well run hotel. The whole place is spotlessly clean and lovely. The staff are polite and friendly to all. There is never a problem getting a sun bed as there are plenty whatever time of day you want one. The infinity pool which is in the next hotels garden is to die for. You couldn’t get a better view. Towels are given to you for the pool and you can return these for clean ones as often as you like. The restaurant offers a good choice of food. There’s something for everyone. Men have to wear long trousers but jeans are fine and tshirts are also okay. There about 70 steps to get down to beach so not really for people who find it hard to get around, although I saw many people giving it a go. The evening entertainment is a bit hit and miss. There were two bands/groups who were worth seeing. The Temptations Southside who sang Motown covers and Pandora (I think they were called) were a rock covers band. Not only could they play but were really entertaining. As for the others, well they were pretty dire and looked like they were having less fun than we were. Obviously the Riu cannot control the weather but this was a real let down. We’ve been going to the Canaries since 1988 and have never had it so cold and over cast. Now the road works out side the hotel. We received an email from TUI about two weeks ago telling us about them and saying they wouldn’t affect our holiday. We arrived very late Sunday night so we didn’t realise the extent of the works. With in about hour the hotel rang the room to ask if everything was okay. We say it was, as at that time we didn’t know the extent of the works. With in two days it was driving us mad. The lorries arrived so early every morning. One morning we had four lorries under our window waiting to drop huge boulders. We couldn’t use our balcony or have the door open as the noise was so hideous. The works started early and went on till after 6pm. We never got a lie in past 7.30 am. We only went for 5 days and the noise didn’t really start to get to us until the second day. But 2 days in to a 5 day holiday you don’t want to spend half a day seeing a manger and repacking to get moved. So we just put up with it. I saw the rep on the last day and explained this but asked her to sort it for people coming in as it isn’t what people are paying for. She wasn’t really interested and said she would pass it on. So I wouldn’t hold my breath. So as I said brilliant hotel but shame about the road works. It’s not the hotels fault at all but it ruined our holiday.
