Wonderful stay at Kazan

Checked into Kazanskoye Podvorye Hostel upon arrival at Kazan on a chilly night. Got upgraded to a modern "mini suite" refurbished just 10 days ago instead of a standard double room. What a great start to our visit to Kazan. The staff including the manager Ekaterine, are extremely helpful and all our requests are attended to promptly. Thank you for a wonderful stay in Kazan.

High standards hostel

The hostel is very well organized, it has a modern decor and it's designed with pods, so that everyone can have his own privacy. The rooms have everything you need: lockers, bedside lamp, a big mirror (they know girls' needs!). The whole hostel is super clean (you will see the cleaners a few times every day), the staff is very kind and helpful. You get a free big and yummy Russian breakfast from the cafe attached to the hostel, where you can have also other cheap, but again yummy meals.

The best hostel in Russia ...

We wouldn't normally stay in a hostel, but it has double rooms with ensuite as well as dorms, it was very central and had good reviews. It was an excellent choice. Despite being busy and central, was quiet and cosy. The reception staff were a delight to chat with and very knowledgeable and helpful. There is a cafe downstairs and everyone can share the common areas, use the kitchen and laundry, take a sauna or be escorted to one of the daily events displayed on the notice board, so no need to feel alone. They even have bedtime milk and cookies at 9pm!

Perfect for a more private sta....

First thing: while it's called a hostel I don't believe there are any dorm rooms here - either single/double/twin. Great if you like privacy but for those who are after a more social 'travelling' experience may not be the best as while there is a common area, it's seldom used and people tend to keep to themselves. Now onto the review: Pros: - Super clean. - Very professional and friendly staff. They did a 'plov party' while we were there which meant we got to interact with other hostel guests and staff (and get free food)!. - Plenty of toilets/showers on each floor. If they are busy, you can try another floor! - Breakfast is included and the best hostel breakfast I've had - a buffet style with plenty of choice - cooked meats/eggs as well as porridge/fruits etc. - Excellent self-serve cafe attached (where you have breakfast!) that serves reasonable lunches/dinners/cakes/coffees etc. There's a nice outside patio area where you can sit. - They have a sauna! It's not included in the price but very reasonable, 350 for the room for one hour (400 if you have tartar tea which is recommended, a refreshing mint tea). Very relaxing. - Location is on the pedestrian street in Kazan (one of the main streets) so near to restaurants etc. - They do have a kitchen area with sofas but it seems rarely used. Cons: - No wifi in our room. They are renovating the hotel and there seemed to be a mixup with our room so really I don't think the rooms were fully ready I'm sure there will be wifi in all rooms in the future. But it inconvenienced our stay so check if it's a necessity! - Whilst I have mentioned plentiful showers, actually there was only 1 female shower (and 1 unisex shower) available on our floor which if considering the number of rooms, actually isn't the best. (Incidentally there were 3 male showers plus the 1 unisex which seemed a bit unfair). - No hot water between 3pm and 5.30pm (i.e. no showers during this time). - Whilst location is good, it's actually a 20 minute walk from the Kremlin so if you want to be near that part of town it's not ideal (public transportation in Kazan isn't great). - No maps of the city available! (I'm aware this is a fairly minor thing but I always love to get a city map...) Hostel is one of the best I've stayed in for a super relaxing stay - you don't need to go anywhere! Food/sauna is right on your doorstep :) A more comfortable and private hostel experience - to be honest, this was more like a boutique/budget hotel!

Great experience

Me and my girlfriend found this place extremely nice. The price was good, the hostel was cosy, located in the very city center, staff was very friendly and provided us with advice when we needed it. Our room was small, but nice-looking, there was everything what we needed, including soap, towels, bathroabs etc.(we paid for a room with a bathroom). Breakfast was included into the price and was also good. I could not imagine a better option for a stay in Kazan. Definitely recommend.
