Good reasonable food.
We visited the bar and restaurant a few times whilst staying in Funchal old town. We enjoyed our meals, good menu and very reasonably priced with good portions. Delicious fish dishes and steak Sirius with rice, potatoes and salad also soup and garlic bread very tasty. Quick service and busy with friendly locals often watching football.

Cheap and cheerful
This hotel is very clean, my room was cleaned thoroughly every day. Twin room single occupancy, with bathroom/shower, balcony. Nice firm bed, furniture a little dated but non the less functional, plenty of storage space.
Superb rooftop sun terrace, loungers did need propping up against railings if you wanted to sit up and read but great for laying down in the sun. They did have nice thick padded cushions which made for very comfortable sunbathing.
Dorita on reception was helpful and friendly along with the rest of the hotel staff.
The restaurant and bar were offering simple local dishes at a great price. Drinks from the bar were inexpensive.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant 7-10 each day, yes it is a basic continental breakfast. Bread rolls (various), cheese, ham, natural yoghurt, cereal (cornflakes), jam, butter, juice (which I haven't tried), coffe, UHT milk (yuk!) I find this is used a lot on continent so, nothing new there. So, breakfast is adequate but nothing to write home about.
You are in the city centre so it can be noisy at night but it goes very quiet at 23.30 ish, I'm on holiday so no problem. Ideal location for getting around Funchal and surrounding areas.
As I said cheap and cheerful, if I wanted the Ritz should have paid there prices !! - But saying that you would be hard pressed to improve on the cleanliness at Hotel Sirius, it is spotless!!!!

Fab location for this basic bu....
This small yet functional hotel's main plus point is it's excellent location for access to the centre of Funchal and all connections to transport and amenities. Apart from this it is in a pleasantly quiet area which serves as a good base for your travels around Madeira. With a 24 hr reception, Dorita proved herself the star of the show with her helpful attitude and good knowledge of the island being very thorough. The remaining reception staff were not as good, I found, with their limited conduct of English and less of a zealous appetite to help. For the cost, the rooms were pleasant enough with a good bed and a good size bathroom and all working facilities. I've never stopped in a two star hotel before but found it a pleasant enough. However, there are one or two issues I found with the hotel that need rectifying. The first is the wi-fi where getting a signal on the third floor was dire impossible, despite my best efforts. Looking at the thread of comments on this hotel it appears to be an ongoing problem with others who have stayed at the hotel which the management will not solve (despite the solution being rather simple!). My complaints were not met by a solution either, just like everyone else who has mentioned it. The only place I got a signal was in the hotel lobby with PISO-02 and PISO-03 proving awful reception. The other issue with this place is the breakfast which in a word is basic! People have mentioned this on TripAdvisor and it's true - if you want to wake up to a fabulous breakfast then this is not the place for you. Awful juice drink, basic breads, low quaility jams, cheese - it is not epic! The same old stuff day in day out was too much much for me. So much so that I was forced one morning to buy my own breakfast from the local supermarket and bring it back to eat. This place doesn't even serve croissants !! So the breakfast is a big no no for me. The other thing you will not get is a fabulous view with an almost concrete view vertically from my balcony of surrounding buildings. However, overall it is a thumbs up from me for Hotel Sirius which proved to be an otherwise nice experience for the 2 weeks I stayed here and especially for what little you are forking out staying here.

Great little spot in Funchal.
My first ever review, so I'm guessing it will be a bit of a babble.
I needed a room for a short stay in Funchal to visit my mother who was in hospital there, after having a fall.
I have travelled a reasonable amount in my past, I am a simple man that doesn't ask for much from a hotel. The two things I would normally look for is a clean and a safe room. When I saw the price of this hotel I was guessing that I would be lucky to receive either of these requirements, but as I was travelling alone it wasn't massively important.
When I arrived, I was greeted buy a very smiley lady who was very sympathetic and caring when hearing about my purpose for the visit. Upon checking in she informed me that there was breakfast included in that price. I walked up to the room with few expectations, but when opening the door I discovered a very clean welcoming room. Breakfast was limited, but that is by no means a criticism, there was enough there to get you started with the day, the selection of fresh bread was beautiful.
All in all, very impressed.
Oh, as a side note, am member of staff informed me that while I was there the fireworks were on down the marina, and said about watching it from the rooftop terrace, that I was unaware of. I went up the hesitantly but sure enough a perfect view, a lovely little bonus.

Good value, Excellent Location
Stayed here for two nights, with our son to visit CR7 Museum.
The Hotel is basic , however very clean and centrally located for bars, restaurants and attractions.
We had a room facing the road which could be noisy at times.
Breakfast was in a small cafe next door which was very basic.
The fruit juice was orange squash and awful.
However for the money we paid, this hotel suited our needs.
If you are after a clean, well located hotel this is for you, but do not expect frills as there aren't any.
