My fiance and I, who were in Italy to get married recently stayed at the Metropol. We were extremely disappointed and under-whelmed. We were shown our very small room and immediately noticed a vile smell coming from the shower. It smelled like a cesspool. The manager came and didn't even go into the bathroom and told us he'd move our room. They moved us to another room and the exact same smell was coming from the shower. Not only that but there would be water coming from underneath the shower onto the marble floor. The lobby played loud music until 12:30 most nights. The staff was not very helpful especially with this being a five star hotel. Not once did the management call or check to see if we were happy. This is NOT a five star hotel!

Metropole Hotel, we loved it.

Our first visit to Sicily and the Metropole Hotel and we loved it, perhaps with a few reservations. The hotel's location is directly in the center of town on the Corso Umberto, the main walking / shopping street of Taormina. Our room was a good size, with a nice closet space in a separate room, with a lovely balcony with a sun bed and table and chairs. Breakfast was included, and was excellent, a nice buffet, as well as being able to special order from the chef, who cooked there on the dining area overlooking the Ionian Sea. This was also an ideal place for a cocktail or beer in the evening before dinner. I have to thank Michael, bar and restaurant Manager, a very welcoming gentleman with a warm smile who dealt with my wife’s dietary concerns. Also the lady who served us breakfast along with waiter Seve who took good care of us. The girls who tidied or room twice a day, you did a wonderful job. You do get the impression that it’s bit a posers hang out, pretentious, but that’s probably because it’s a very smart Italian styled hotel, in a great location. The owner is obviously very pleased with what he’s created. I’m a working guy and the genuine warmth of those who worked there towards us however more than made up for that, in my book. We’d love to return again someday, thank you all.

Pretentious snobs but great vi....

yup if you do not have a black card you are NOT WELCOME. No Rolex, then you must leave. Truly sad how they treated us. I will not be back. Many more Sicilians have nicer rooms and for a lot less. The owner probably wants only "A" listers to stay so he drives the rest away.

Sicilian Holiday

After a business trip to Rome, we wanted to go to Sicily. The company who worked with my wife for the Rome meeting, recommended the Metropole Hotel, and we loved it. It is right on the Corso Umberto, the main walking street of Taormina. Our room had its own hot tub on a small patio. The room wasn't large, had nice closet space, but lacked drawer storage, so we laid all our clothes out on the day problem. Breakfast was included, and was excellent....a nice buffet, as well as the availability to special order. The dining area overlooked the Ionian Sea, and was an ideal place for a cocktail in the evening. The location in the central portion of the city made it an easy walk to explore the city.

Beauty and the Beast

First the Beauty. This hotel's location cannot be beat. It is in the center of town and the entry door leads to RIGHT THERE. The back of the property offers the most fantastic views imaginable. Sit outside high above the sea for a cocktail or dinner. Also, the quality of common space and the rooms is very well kept. Now the Beast. We booked four nights, Friday through Monday, during the warm weather months and the air conditioning for the whole building broke down on Saturday. It still was not repaired by Monday. They did offer to buy us a dinner as compensation for the discomfort. It was our first time in Sicily so I cannot say if this is a common occurrence. I would have to believe a property owned by Hilton or Marriott would have gotten the A/C repaired immediately.
