Our room was the attic there was no window and it needed some maintenance. My friend and I are in our early 60's, we had 70 stairs to climb with 4 suitcases.
Our arrival was not the best but our departure was better as they knew we were not happy.

We stayed at the secret garden for five days we had caught bus from air port and dropped off on the main road. We asked directions twice it didn't take us long to find it,when we got to the big gate pressed buzzer then we were in the property . Up two flights of steps then we were there ,we were taken out to the patio and given lemonchelo and a pitashio drink they were very pleasant so bought some. The room was at the top separate bathroom this did not bother us it was only next door and it was just ours.Nice big room and bed very comfy lots off cupboard space and very clean. Good shower plenty of hot water nice big towels. Breakfast was plentiful you could fill yourself up with ham cheese toast cereal plenty of cake yogurt and fruit has much coffee has you want . Not far from train station two stops from Sorento ,it was a good place to visit other places and a lovely place to stay the staff were very nice and pleasant .

Points to bear in mind
The Secret Garden Relais is delightful but we feel if you are considering it you should be aware of some shortcomings.
It's an 18th century mansion which is in the process of restoration. The relais is on the 2nd floor; which in such a mansion is 55 steps up I.e. effectively 4 stories.
The description says it's in Sorrento -wrong- it's in Piano de Sorrento which is a 5 minute train ride from Sorrento. That would be ok but for the fact that trains run only every half hour and the last one back is 21:37. Getting to destinations towards Naples was fairly easy as the station is close though working out how the trains run was a challenge and beware wildcat train strikes.
Getting there with cases isn't so easy. We took the Curreri bus from the airport which dropped us on the main road; dragging our suitcases along narrow streets was not so much fun. The access is down a series of very narrow streets.
It is not a hotel, so don't expect a presence except at breakfast time. Even then we had some niggles concerning how the place is run. There is a lack of attention to detail on a daily basis. There were no batteries in the safe and, though the proprietor said he would supply some, they never arrived. The lamp bulb was broken and was only replaced on the 3rd day when we removed the broken bulb and left it on the bed. The room was not seen to every day; the bin wasn't emptied and cups weren't replaced and the loo roll was not replenished(!).
Though a nice place we wouldn't stay there again and would favour staying somewhere more central to Sorrento itself.

Think twice before booking!
I booked a room with this hotel several months in advance. Their late arrival and parking policies were not clear. While planning out the details of our trip I noticed we would not be able to make the hotel's mandatory 8pm check-in, so I emailed the hotel. Also, there is an additional fee for parking that was not optional upon booking, so I missed it until I started getting into the fine print. So I included my request in my email regarding parking and my concern about their requirement to prebook.
48 hours later (this is during the week), I had still not received any reply. Since their check-in is mandatory and not flexible in the least, I was worried about not having a place to stay, so I was forced to book a room with a different hotel.
Therefore, I emailed Secret Garden to cancel and refund my room per their website policy, since they had not responded and I was going to be in a predicament where we might not have a place to stay.
THIS time they emailed me back within 12 hours informing me that they would not cancel the reservation because I didn't book through their website. They still did not address the parking issue, but they did let me know I could arrive later--whether it was with a fee or not they did not answer.
So, be wary. The fact that they would not answer my questions for simple customer service reasons, yet when money was involved I got a reply back right away raises a big, red flag. I will keep my reservation with their competitor as this is too far to travel to not have reliable accommodations. The second red flag is that they have different rules depending on the sight you book with; and third, their fine print is extensive and strict. Who ever heard of a check-in time ending at 8pm?! I wish I would have seen it before I booked. I read the reviews, and it was a good price, but I took a chance and lost money in the end. Hopefully my review can allow others to know what I did not to be able to make a more informed decision about this hotel than I was able to.
