Shelter for relaxation

We had an amazing time at Il Monastero. We loved how the feel of the medieval monastery was integrated into the modern hotel. We had a great time at the pool with our 2.5 year old daughter and we ate great local food in its restaurant. The service was very kind and willing to accommodate your wishes. Furthermore, a gorgeous beach was closeby. Very well recommended for relaxation away from the busy world!

Rustic Hotel

Hotel staff were fantastic; very willing & friendly. Hotel itself needs some modernization as it is getting a bit tired. Restaurant v good. Location isolated and you need a car. However, the nearby beaches are brilliant. Perfect if you want to get away from it all. Wi-Fi, TV, etc is rudimentary. No shops other than small supermarket. Best thing; didn't hear any English speaking people for 2 weeks - bliss.

Great place for a wonderful ho....

We spent a week at Il Monastero and we had a great time. This place is very beautiful, especially the gazebo where we stayed in the evening and enjoyed mirto, the local liqueur. The swimming pool area is very beautiful and you can relax after a long day. Giorgia and Francesca were the perfect hosts, they helped us with advises and support for a great holiday. I recommend this place and I am looking forward to returning.

Mostly good

This hotel is really different. Most of the features of the old monastery have been maintained which we liked. The staff are very friendly. The location, while remote is close to a lovely beach that was not too busy. We ate in the restaurant 2 nights. The food was good. Breakfast was also good. Some minor complaints about the hotel. They do not have staff in the bar. U have to ring a bell to get service. The long wait times can get a bit frustrating. On check out we were charged a €3per person per day service fee. When we queried this we were told that this was for parking and towels. We though this was a bit greedy considering they did not change our towels at all during our 3 night stay so essentially we were charged €18 to park the car in a dusty, rocky car park across the main road from the hotel. A word of advise if you are prone to insect bits like I am - wear lots of repellent. The property is surrounded with beautiful flowers and trees which means lots of biting insects.

Annual Family Holiday

Il Monastero was once a monastery and offers a very relaxed and gentle paced atmosphere - a far cry from a lot of resort/chain hotels. It is about an hour’s drive from the airport and I would recommend a hire car as the location could be described as a bit remote. A few minutes’ drive however takes you onto the express way and within 30 minutes you can be on one the fabulous beaches of the Cost Rei. First impressions of the hotel were a bit mixed. The interior of the lobby and small lounge area is very dark, bordering on gloomy – the dark terracotta walls adding to this feeling. The hotel is all on one level so no stairs or lifts to worry about. Our bedroom was a decent size but the energy saving light were all but useless to read by – Kindle owners don’t have this problem to worry about of course. The bathroom was reasonably modern but I found the shower cubicle very small and why of why is there no tray to put the soap, or shampoo on?? A small detail but an irritating one all the same. We didn’t bother using the very dated and small portable TV in the room. Room service was very efficient with the towels being changed every two or three days. We found the continental breakfast somewhat monotonous but had to remember the hotel is rated 3*. The swimming pool was excellent and blends nicely into the landscape. There are a few garden games available – table tennis, chess and a rather dated mini golf course. We had a few lunches and whilst the food was good and decent value the service was a bit slow at times: there didn’t always seem to be enough staff on hand. Wi-Fi speed was a bit slow at times and is only available in the lobby and lounge area. We very much enjoyed the lovely internal courtyard and in the middle is a huge curtained gazebo – a great place to chill out and read a book or have a drink. The hotel is in transition and I understand new owners took over in January so there are improvements on the way. Friendly service and a nice relaxed atmosphere are the plusses, improvements to the bathrooms; in particular the showers and the lighting would make a big difference. Also be aware that the carpark is across the road from the hotel and care is needed when crossing as cars zoom by in that all too Italian manner! Il Monastero offers something different and whilst we may not use it again it is well worth spending some time here if you are looking for a chilled out stress free holiday.
