Terrible experience at La Scal....
This was a very negative experience. I live in Italy and am in the hospitality business and travel quite a bit -and have never been so poorly treated as I was at this at La Scalinatella. The photos did not represent the accommodations, the rooms were somewhat shabby and threadbare. The 2 owners were not warm and welcoming as I would expect in the hospitality business. I asked if I could check in early , which they accommodated and then found out that the wi fi signal is very weak - and does not hold . It was necessary for me to have a wifi signal as I was on a working visit to Rome and so this was a big negative. I also politely asked if i could have the room cleaned early the next day, as I was meeting my partner at the airport and would be coming back . They grudgingly agreed.
I then had an emergency situation arise back up in Northern Italy where I live and had to leave unexpectedly, the same day i had checked in. I left a note and the key, no one was around, it was lunchtime, and I checked the cancellation policy , which said i would pay for the one night only, which was fine, i did not want to put any inconvenience on them, that was my responsibility.
The next day , i received a scathing email from the owner, she was most unpleasant, and very attacking , saying how rude I was to ask about the wifi- and to request an early cleaning. She also let me know how put out they were to check me in early.
Again, i am in the hospitality business here in Italy and I was shocked at how unprofessional and unaccommodating these women are, I strongly urge anyone that is considering staying at La Scalinatella to NOT come to this B and B, it was a dreadful place and imbued with very negative energy.
I do not like to give bad reviews as I understand how harmful they can be but these womens behavior was deplorable and completely unnecessary.

Great Location - Pefect for sh....
We really enjoyed our stay at La Scalinatella - the location is excellent for exploring the city and the local area is full of bars, restaurants and shops.
Hosts were friendly and mostly spoke good English. It was explained to us upon check-in that a hot breakfast would not be provided which was fine, as we chose to eat out most mornings anyway.
The room was slightly smaller than expected but perfectly fine for a short break as we hardly spent anytime in the room anyway! Iron, fan, hairdryer all provided which was helpful.
Thanks again for your hospitality and we would definitely return.

We stayed at La Scalinatella B&B for three nights. Location is great, but the B&B left a lot to be desired. We were asked if we smoked upon arrival (no), but found that our room smelled of cigarettes and lacked a lot of the charm that drew us to initially book our accommodations. We had a lot more interaction with the host than anticipated (knocking on our door two out of the three mornings of our stay), found communication on house amenities to be poor - i.e. acquiring coffee at breakfast, wifi details. The place has potential to be great, but it's not there yet and was a misstep on our part not to stay at a more established inn.

Lovely room, cosy B&B, some is....
We stayed here for two nights.
Pros: The room was really lovely, very spacious and such a comfy bed! The shutters were great for keeping out the light. The host was very warm and friendly and offered us some recommendations for where to go for dinner in the area, and was flexible with check out and payment. She also let us leave our bags for a few hours on our last day so we could wander around for the morning without lugging them around. The location is brilliant, you can basically walk everywhere and if you want to get the metro it's about 1 minute walk away.
Issues: The breakfast. She did mention to us that by law Italian B&B hosts aren't allowed to cook for guests so there would be no hot food, which is fine. However she said there was no way for her to improve the breakfast, which I disagree with. The quality of the bread/yoghurt/cheese/coffee that was provided wasn't great. Secondly as the B&B is so central it gets very loud in the mornings with the rubbish collection (of course not the fault of the B&B but something to bare in mind). Thirdly, the host's sister also lives there and isn't quite as friendly or helpful as the host. The wifi also isn't great but she explained this when we arrived. It works fine in the communal area but is a bit temperamental in the room.
Overall a lovely room for the price and that's the main thing!

La Scalinatella B&B - April 20....
Both my husband and I stayed at La Scalinatella in April - 3 nights.
We were very happy with the location, Monti is absolutely amazing for food and centrally located - you can walk pretty much everywhere. The local caffee just around the corner served the best cappuccino in town. Anna Maria at La Scalinatella was very friendly and made us feel home, the room was nice and cozy. The B&B is nicely decorated and it almost felt like visiting distant family in a typical Roman accommodation - very nice and something you definitely won't experience staying at the hotel. Anna Maria also helped my husband with his passport that he left behind, very helpful. We had a lovely stay and will definitely be coming back. Joanna & Bart
