Not a 4 Star
Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Hotel Gallia. The hotel is well situated for Rome Termini Station which is a 10 minute walk and directly opposite the Santa Maria Maggiore (Stop 2 on the red hop on bus). The Colosseum is around 15 minutes walk away and well worth a visit.
We would not consider the hotel to be a 4 star more like a 2 star. It is very dated and could do with a total refurbishment to bring it up to standard.
The reception staff are not very helpful and do not seem to understand English.
It was 25 degrees while we were there and the radiator in the bathroom was on full and never turned off and there is no air conditioning. On 3 occasions I asked the guy on reception to turn off our heating, he said he would ask the maid, but it didn't happen. Our room was dark and not very big with a smallish window and it felt very claustrophobic with the heat.
Wifi was available in the room but it was a bit hit and miss at times. We had a TV in the room which did not work, maybe there was a charge to pay but there was no information in the folder that was left in the room, in fact the only items in the folder were very tatty "Do not Disturb" door handle signs
The breakfast room was tiny with only 28 seats. The breakfast was not appealing so we didn't bother going again after the first morning. We found a little cafe around 5 minutes walk and paid for our breakfast.
A word of warning when you leave the hotel, you are given a bill for Rome City Tax based on a 4 star hotel which is 6 euros per night each, our bill was 48 euros which we were not expecting. I mentioned it to other passengers on the flight home who had better accommodation and they only paid 4 euros per night. We felt we were ripped off being as we had not received a 4 star service.
We would not return to this hotel. We came across some super modern hotels while we were there for a cheaper nightly tariff. Let this be a lesson learnt.

Very friendly and great locati....
The staff at The Gallia were very friendly and accommodating. They went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable. The hotel is located a short walk from the Train Terminal and in the middle on many restaurants. The Coliseum and other major tourist attractions is also a short walk away. To arrange tours there is a Tourist office straight over the road from the front door

Almost a 5
I really wanted to give this hotel a five but we travel a lot and I have expectations that I believe are very basic that hotels should follow or have. I will start with the positive. The hotel is beautiful. The décor is perfect for someone who wants to be immersed in Roman culture. It is in a great location close to bus stops, train, stops, markets, restaurants, and even the great Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore right across the street. They included a great breakfast eash morning and the service by the employees was always great. It is a small, intimate boutique hotel with really only four floors of rooms, and a fifth floor with a great rooftop patio for seeing the city or having a lunch or snack. For the price we paid I felt we lucked out. My main issue with the hotel was the lack of information in the room on how things worked. There was very little information on how phone calls worked, or what amenities the hotel offered, local recommendations, or the fact that there were some hidden charges. For instance it would have been nice to know how much we were being charged for each water, soda, beer that we drank from the minibar. I do not mind paying for things I drink but it sucks to find out after the fact that something is not included and that they are overpriced. I am used to hotels telling me up front what something is so I am aware. I do not like surprises like this. Otherwise, I thought the place was great and very well worth staying here.

Just spent weekend here, probably not a 4 star but still a lovely place to stay. Central for all places. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Our family room was large enough for the 3 of us and right next to the roof balcony but still quiet enough not to hear any noise. Would certainly come back here.

Very Central for all Main Sigh....
Our family of 7 persons stayed at the Gallia Hotel for 3 nights. We had 3 comfortable rooms but must mention the fantastic room the 3 young people had - it was enormous with a double and a single bed and a separate part for the lovely bathroom and dressing area. The Buffet breakfast each morning had a good selection of hot and cold dishes with Coffee/Tea and Orange Juice. It also has a great roof terrace where you can sit and sunbathe.
