A nice stay in a good location....

We had a nice stay at the Hotel Europa in via Vares in Rome. Just for one night only, but we enjoyed the helpful staff and the good breakfast. Rooms are a bit smal, but totally good for a city stay. The location is excellent for travellers who continue from Roma Termini Train station wich is just a 2 minute walk. From there all major buslines take you anywhere you want and the vatican is only a short underground ride away. You will find many small restaurants in the surroundings that cater for well priced italian food. We will certainly return as the value for money is worth it. Special Thanks for Maximilian, the managing director, who made our stay very nice. Honestly there was a guy at breakfast who did not care for any service to the clients, and whos language skills do not cater a thank or please in any language. But the other collegues made it all up to us. Thank you!!

Not a 4 star but an overpriced....

The hotel is close to Termini, which was important to me. Knowing the area as a not-so-nice I thought I'd pay more and stay in a 4 star: usually, that means pleasant service and better contingent of people. However, it was far from beinf the case in this hotel. I am incredibly surprised where the 4 stars come from. Based on my extensive travel experience, this place is just an OVERPRICED 2-STAR maximum with quite a low-quality service. I stayed in one 2-star nearby where all but price was similar - we were two and yet paid half of what I paid alone at Hotel Europa. Rude receptionists with little problem-solving ability but willingly accentuating cost aspects, e.g. lost key to the room would be 50 euro, a more attentive manager. A tired-looking porter. Room size is okay. However, super strong chlorine smell in the room almost knocked me off my feet upon arrival. It would not go away until the second night despite the open window. A joke of a tiny candy on the pillow upon arrival as a treat. Another treat was their broken Internet connection that had been down since 7 days, as per the receptionist. He claimed I could only find out from the manager whether or not it would be back on during my 3-day stay. Having lived in Rome, I get that the service here can be very poor but an allegedly 4-star could at least try and be nice about it, right?... In fact, Internet worked but was super slow. Perhaps they exhausted permissible traffic volume and were reluctant to pay more and hence fuzzy explanations about the issue. Not cool. Breakfast is served underground and is mediocre - little fresh fruits, cheap yoghurts, diluted coffee and zero service. In addition, they seem impatient for you to be done at 10 am, the end time for breakfast, and lock the door. Cleaner walked in without knocking on the door at 9:30 and came back during the day but did not do a good job: took away the towel for feet and left no replacement, did not really do much. Second day was better. Someone had to leave a note for me at the reception. Upon check-in the receptionist assured that would not be a problem. When my colleague got here, he was turned down because the note was not in a sealed envelope. The colleague had to get an envelope and come back again. I would expect the allegedly four-star hotel to resolve this smoothely without driving anyone away. I had to spend half hour on the phone to find out what happened and how to make sure I get my note, which involved half hour on the phone trying to get the manager as the receptionist would blabber incomprehensibly instead of being clear about what happened. This should not be my headache. Hotel must seek ways to figure a solution, e.g. find an envelope to seal the note. And do so with a smile. To finish me probably, the TV set went on in my room as I was still sleeping at 8 am sharp. It literally woke me up scared. The remote was on the table where I could not have accidentally pressed 'ON' to cause this. Perhaps this is the way of this hotel saying it is time to get up and pack to leave at 11 am sharp. I did NOT appreciate almost anything about my stay here and would never on Earth recommend this place to anyone. Better suffer through a couple of subway stops or a Roman cab and stay somewhere nicer. For this price, it should more than possible. Do NOT waste your money on Hotel Europa. Very overpriced and overrated for what it is: bad service, not pleasant, won't solve let slone anticipate the issues guests may encounter during their stay. P.S. Thinking of ways to make the place better - work with staff and make sure they live up to the 4-star standards, hire people who know how to be polite and most importantly to smoothely solve issues to the satisfaction of clients. Or decrease number of stars. However, you'd probably need to burn the place and build a new one from scratch.

Unfair reviews

I am currently staying at this hotel and i admit did find previous reviews alarming, but i thought too late to change so will give the hotel a glad i did, there is absolutley nothing wrong with this hotel, it is clean, room is large with 2 very large comfortable spotless beds, good pillows not the usual flat hotel ones, ok we only have small window but air con works perfectly and too much to see in rome to spend time in room anyway, breakfadt has good choice with plenty for all, staff are very friendly and have been nothing but helpful since we arrived, even calling tour company to book trip for me when i had problems online!! My only criticism and its a small one is that bar doesnt stock brandy!! Staff seem to work hard to keep guests happy, ok hotel is old but its spotless, i would certainly return and as for the lady who could not get english channel on tv....maybe try exploring various buttons on remote...i got english audio no problem!!!

One of the worst hotels in Rom....

Never ever stay at this hotel! The worse one couldn't happen to you. When you pick up the room key at the reception don't ask for beautiful view, ask for windows to the room !!! One of the worst hotels in Rome. A very bad experience! Helpful and friendly reception staff !!!

Nice little hotel

We stayed here April 20-24 2018. The hotel itself on the ground floor was very nice, little bar area and the staff were incredibly helpful. The location was fantastic the termini train station is literally a 4 minute walk. Bedrooms are basic but extremely clean and the beds are comfy. Don’t see the point in spending much time in a hotel when you can walk around Rome. We walked from our hotel to Spanish steps and the collessium which takes around 30-40 minutes but the views along the way were fantastic. Some really nice restaurant literally 10 minutes from the hotel. Overall I would recommend a stay at this hotel. Only thing I could knock was the air con it just didn’t work but with the windows open it was fine. Staff were great and helpful
