Old and uncomfortable

The hotel is located in the close vicinity of the Damascus Gate. It has a small rooftop pool and bar. The later was closed due to renovation work. The rooms were old and sparsely furnished. The bathroom was dirty. If you are not looking for comfort or luxury but want to be close to the old city, this is the place to be. Breakfast is included but won’t prepare you for a day of sightseeing.

Lovely staff, rooms tired, exc....

Nice large room and bathroom. Like other reviewers it was very tired. Carpet desperately needs replacing as very stained. Quite odd to get out of bed to turn off main light because side light would not turn off otherwise. Food standard tourist hotel buffet with nothing to distinguish it. However, staff here were all very lovely. The restaurant manager clearly trains his waiters and waitresses well. Very busy when we were there that they were always smiling and happy to have a joke with you. As other reviewers have said the pool was closed which was a shame because the view is amazing from the roof. No sign that it was going to be open despite saying it would be on the Monday we were there. I went up and the door was locked. There is only one restaurant. Hotel is in an excellent location, just down the road from Saint Georges Cathedral, very near garden tomb, and about 10 minutes walk from Damascus gate.

Needs alot of Work

Stayed here for 4 nights in Feb/18. The only thing recognizable between their website and reality, is the photo of the front exterior of the hotel. The front reception staff were the best part of the hotel - friendly and helpful; only issue with reception was when it came to check-out and the credit card machines didn't work - cash only. The rooms - nothing like their website photos - mold/dirt in the showers, no mattress cover,a flat sheet only that came undone and exposed the dirty/stained mattress underneath; dirty coffee mugs/glasses used on day 1 were never removed or replaced; hallway carpet needs stretching - a tripping hazard as is. The food - worse than the rooms. Breakfast was always cold - the heaters under the serving dishes were never turned on; if an item was emptied, it was never refilled; mostly the same items every day; tables were never cleared and the staff just stood around and watched guests clearing places to eat. The dinner buffet looked worse than breakfast so we avoided it. Regardless of what it says on the website, there is only 1 restaurant, on the main floor, the lounge/outdoor garden/bar did not have music/drinks/TV/etc.; the pool was closed; the rooftop floor was basically shut down as evidenced by the layers of dust on the few pieces of furniture and there wasn't a lounge or access to the rooftop patio/city views (many other hotels/restaurants did have their rooftop restaurants/patios open) The lobby and common areas - lumpy, saggy furniture. This is a 2-Star hotel as it presents itself today. Only good thing was proximity to the Old City.

Great hotel!

We had a great stay at the hotel, upgraded upon arrival to the royal sweet and really well taken care of. Placed close to the Garden Tomb and the old city. Friendly and helpful staff! Really recommend this.

Service with a smile, but prop....

I brought a group of 35 to this hotel for a 6 night stay. Let me first say that the staff could not be nicer or more eager to help. I was very impressed by their commitment to hospitality. The hotel is also in a great location for quick access to the old city--we could get to the Damascus gate in 7 minutes. We had both our breakfasts and dinners at the hotel, and while the dinners for the most part were applauded by our group, the breakfasts were hit and miss. The scrambled eggs are powered and some mornings were cold. The fruit was all of the canned variety. The pastries and coffee got thumbs up. Our greatest disappointment was in the condition of the rooms and in housekeeping. Almost everyone had problems in their bathrooms--mildew stains, very dim lighting, dual head showers didn't work, split in the hose(spraying water all over),improperly installed shower curtains that let water go all over the floor. I could go on! (The water was nice and hot, though!) No one's AC worked, so group members opened windows (no screens) and were subject to street noise. Some had electric plugs that didn't work, closet doors that were broken (not allowing access to the in-closet dresser drawers), missing suit-case holders (or the room was so oddly configured there was no room for one). Re the housekeeping, we had to ask to have several bathrooms recleaned. Several rooms had no clean sheets all week--most others just once in 6 nights. Sometimes there were no new towels (but the old ones were gone) or the used coffee cups and glasses were sitting there dirty when we came back at the end of the day. When we checked in most of our couples were given rooms with two twin beds. The hotel staff did their best to reconfigure the rooms over the next two days, to push the twins together to make a "king". However, flat sheets were used for the bottom sheet and didn't stay on very well. And the reconfiguration leaves one side of the bed with the bedside table and lamp, and the other has nothing (I had to use the chair and dragged over the floor lamp). The staff kindly moved several of our folks who were in the most unacceptable rooms to better rooms about half way through our stay, and their upgraded rooms were much better. If this hotel would put just a little effort into repairing and updating the rooms, and if it would upgrade the breakfast offerings, it would come closer to being the 4 star hotel it advertises.
