Just the perfect hotel

Came here for many subsequent years in the past and just visited again after an 'outage' of 6 years. Place is still amazing and has the perfect hotel feel. Staff are always very friendly and courteous, you struggle to find that in other 5 star establishments. Would recommend without hesitation as has plenty of options for activities both within the grounds and offsite, both when the sun is out and when it rains.

Third visit and as good as eve....

This hotel is fully deserving of its five star rating. Just returned from third visit in four years. Very friendly, welcoming, with courteous and efficient staff, delicious food and drinks, location and facilities to die for. Would recommend without hesitation.

Location isn't everything.........

The hotel is located in the centre of the seafront at Binz, close to the pier, and yet an area of lovely woodland with cycle tracks, footpath and outstanding coastal views is on the doorstep. The building is attractive with spacious, light and well-furnished rooms. Our bedroom was a decent size, although the bathroom was cramped, and the balcony overlooking the sea was nice to have. The housekeeping was unobtrusive, but the room was kept spotlessly clean. So much was nice about the hotel, but there are two serious areas of weakness. The first of these is the main Dining Room. We ate there on two occasions. The first was a buffet which descended into chaos as guests waited for food to be replenished. On the second occasion, although there were fewer than twelve tables occupied (as on most nights apparently), we waited forty minutes, eating bread and drinking water, for the waiter to stop chatting to other guests and bring us the wine we had ordered. It arrived just behind the starter. My wife had ordered Guinea Fowl, which turned out to be chicken; when she pointed this out the staff insisted that it was Guinea Fowl, and then tried a linguistic argument- that the German for Guinea Fowl means 'little chicken'. Fortunately the hotel's informal alternative restaurant, the Steakhouse, proved to be good: a nice ambience and excellent food, although naturally providing no alternative to meat. We ate there most nights. The second glaring weakness is the Spa. The Spa Reception Area gives a warning of what is to come; it is completely lacking in atmosphere- no guests waiting for or booking treatments, and Spa receptionists who chat with colleagues or stare into space and seem completely unmotivated. We had each booked an 80-minute treatment before travelling. We arrived at 4.25 for our 4.30 appointments. At 4.35 one of the therapists arrived, and when reminded by the receptionist that it was an 80-minute booking and presumably not realising that my wife speaks German, she swore obscenely and disappeared again. At around 4.40 both therapists arrived, showed us to our treatment rooms and then disappeared again for a further ten minutes- presumably to prepare for the massages that they were to give. The treatments proved to be ineffectual. They began so late and finished so early that we actually received 50-minute treatments, but were charged for 80. The Hotel really should not offer Ayurvedic treatments if it does not have the staff who are qualified or competent to give them. Some of the hotel staff were delightful, but there are some who seem to have a 'don't care' attitude to guests, and the management who should be getting to grips with this problem were hardly to be seen. By the end of our stay I was glad to leave the Kurhaus Binz, and I am afraid that I will be avoiding Travel Charm hotels in future.

Generally Excellent

What a wonderful place Binz, on the island of Rugen is despite the long journey, which I recommend should be done in two parts. One can imagine the gentry in the old days taking the air or convalescing. All very elegant and can be described as an up-market beach resort. Not a lot to do, but by wandering around the quiet stand/prom, the See Bridge (the Pier to us in the UK!) time soon goes. Do take a trip on the Roland train to Sellin. The Hotel was stunning and I can say, probably one of the best I've visited. Lovely decor, homely, absolutely beautiful with very polite staff and between us we got around the language barrier. We were made to feel very welcome. Room 301 was very quiet, facing the front, no balcony, but high windows. Upon arrival (having been met at the station by the hotel’s car/chauffeur – about a 10 min ride and car stinking of smoke) we were offered a cold drink which was most welcome – apple juice. We had a small explanation of the hotel and warning that there were going to be 4,000 people (there weren’t) at the front of the hotel for a popular German pop chap/song writer. Upon querying timing, we were told 8.00 – 10.00 p.m. (ummm, I thought!). The concert ended at 10.10 p.m. (apparently due to strict laws). Fair enough. I was fast asleep by then after a long day!! We were given a typed invitation to meet the Management at 5.30 p.m. in the Library. This consisted of a glass of champagne and any queries - a nice touch. The room was beautifully spacious with charm and character. Sadly, no tea/coffee making facilities. Safe, bathrobes and slippers, TV, i-pad (not that I can use one of those!), very comfortable seating area and plenty of wardrobe space. The spa area was most relaxing and massage excellent. Very little English spoken throughout the town. The bathroom, although small, had everything and both room and bathroom were very clean. Very good quality toilet paper. Breakfast was excellent, absolutely everything, with attentive staff in a light airy room. All taken at a very calm pace. A wonderful butter machine to play with! One evening we had two soft drinks in the bar. These totalled 6.10E. I gave a 10E note and the waiter thanked us and walked off. I would have been happy to tip him, but not 3.90E for a hot chocolate and tonic water! We also had a problem with one night’s dinner (the only night we ate in). The monkfish was cold and not cooked. After a lot of debate (mainly because of language problems) 50E was taken off our dinner bill. Despite this, I would definitely stay at this hotel again and thoroughly recommend it.

Brilliant location right on se....

A wonderful, friendly hotel. It's right in the Centre of the seafront with the pier and beach close by. Very good double glazing, so quiet rooms despite plenty going on around. Excellent breakfast included in room rate
