Friendly Staff, Great Location near train station & City Centre, Great Breakfast, Quaint room. Great Price Value. We were pleasantly surprised!
We highly recommend this diamond in the rough hotel.
So lucky to get the last room available since there was a soccer event happening in town & all the hotels were fully booked for that event.

Very clean, nice and friendly
I booked a quad room for 4 in April for our trip in early May. I traveled to Munich with my friend and her two sons (21 and 17) and we needed a hotel close to the train station for our last night, as they had an early morning train to Hamburg and I had an early afternoon flight back to the states. Hotel Monaco is just a short 2 block walk to Munich Central station. It was a little odd, as you walk in and then take a lift to the 5th floor, and we arrived late - 11:30 pm - as we drove back from the Black Forest that day. And they didn’t have our reservation. But they were so nice and accommodating (I think a little embarrassed, as well, when I showed them the email reservation where I had booked directly through their website and not a travel site). They gave us two rooms, each with a full bathroom, for the price of the quad room. The rooms were very clean and nicely accommodated. Free secure Wi-Fi as well. I didn’t have breakfast (although they offered it to me free for their mix up), but the breakfast did look amazing. Be advised, since this is so close to the central station, if you’re staying in the spring or summer and need to have the windows open, the noise from the street below may be bothersome if you’re a light sleeper. But even with the mixup, I would definitely stay again.

No sleep and the smell of smok....
Based on Rick Steve's positive review of Hotel Monaco, I booked two nights as part of a 13 day trip exploring Germany and Austria.
Yes, it is reached by an elevator in an office building. My room was rather charming, decorated with lots of hearts.
When I arrived, I immediately noticed a strong odor of cigarettes. I asked the manager (an older woman with dark hair) on duty about the smell; she said she had to smoke in the manager's office because she was unable to take breaks outside.
I should note that Schillerstrasse is a very noisy street, with strip clubs and bars. Since I was put on the 6th floor, I didn't think it would be a problem. After returning to the hotel around 10 pm, I noticed the street noise was loud. Not just an occasional car horn, but a constant stream. I checked to see if the windows were closing correctly. They were closing correctly. I thought the noise would decline after midnight. It didn't, it only increased.
I went to the manager's desk after midnight and asked if they had any ear plugs. The young woman on duty said they did not. I asked if I could move to another room. She said room changes could only be handled with the day manager at 7 am.
This noise continued. I went back to the manager's desk at 2 am to please be moved to another room. She was very sympathetic, but she said the day manager is the only one that can approve room changes.
So I went back at 7 am. And the day manager was there, and it was the older dark-haired woman that needed to take her smoke breaks there in the office. I explained the situation. Her response was to say that she would not relocate me and I could leave and not be held to the second night. I don't think it was a language issue, but her response seemed strangely rude and abrupt.
So there I was at 7:30 am on the street, in the rain. But, the great news, just a 1 minute walk next door, was the Hotel Royal at Schillerstrasse 11A. What a find and a bargain! And a spectacular breakfast buffet included.
Maybe the older dark-haired day manager was having a bad day. I will say that I will be contacting Rick Steves to reevaluate his review. Hotel Monaco reeks of stale cigarettes and my room provided no quiet enjoyment. Yes, Munich is home to Oktoberfest, but that had ended days before.
Do yourself a favor and avoid Hotel Monaco. Munich is a beautiful city filled with awesome restaurants and lovely people. I spent two more days and had a wonderful home base at Hotel Royal.

Nice family run hotel
A nice little hotel, located on the upper floors. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very good located, only 1-2 minutes to central station.
The rooms are quite large and clean. The furniture and decorations have an old classical style. Bathrooms are more modern style with tiled floor and walls. There is no air conditioning, but that is no problem now in mid November.
The rooms are however not that quiet if you are sensitive to noise. You can easily hear people from the hallway and from the streets outside.
The internet is not so fast, especially in the evenings it can be troublesome.
There is no fridge, safe nor coffee maker.
The breakfast is nice. No bacon and scrambled eggs but a good selection of bread and homemade cream cheese salads. Freshly baked waffles and egg muffins are also available daily.

So over the top with hearts and flowers. Cutesy but clean, friendly and comfortable. Close to train station so neighborhood is not the best, but as one of two women alone we felt safe enough. Walked around neighborhood and ate at Indian restaurant across street (good). Hearty breakfast, sweet people. English spoken everywhere.
