Cheap and efficient
The hotel is located in a not so nice neighborhood, but there’s certainly a very lively nightlife! Luckily I had a room not facing the street, so noise wise it was not a problem at all.
Now, the room. It was small, like really small. Just a bed and the shower was right next to it! The toilet was in a separate room luckily, which was also very small, maybe 1m2. I had to watch my knees when sitting down on it...
It was clean though and it had a safe which is free to use, but no mini fridge, which during the very warm may month was really too bad.
I had opted for breakfast which was your standard quality for this hotel range. They did offer smoothies and 4 choices of coffee, so points for that!
I was a bit miffed to find out that breakfast on the weekends did not start until 08 which was very inconvenient as I had to be at the fair at 08.
If you are arriving by car, be prepared to fight tooth and nail for a parking spot with the locals!
Summarizing, cheap hotel, clean but extremely basic and the neighborhood is very lively and not the best.

Good hotel, friendly staff, mo....
I stayed here for one night on a business trip to Karlsruhe, and needed a hotel in between central station and the city center. The receptionist was nice and tried helping me with the shutter, since the one on the middle was broken. I could find a workaround with the extra blanket to shut out the light from the house across the street. The room (it was a family room for only myself, as the hotel seemed quite booked, 219) was nice and spacious, the shower and separate toilet are a bit small, but not a problem for just one person. The bed was comfortable, the room featured a bed sofa in addition and a couch. Modern design, I did not expect that from the looks of the building and the lobby.
All in all a great stay, even though the neighborhood is not that great. As a woman, I would maybe not have been totally comfortable walking around alone after dark (a lot of loitering, not threatening, but just a lot of men sitting around on the streets.
There are a couple of bakeries and a restauratnt with a beer garden around the corner.

Nicely renovated hotel in good....
I stayed in the Barbarossa on a business trip to the KIT. It is conveniently located four S-Bahn stops from the central station and same distance to the city centre and the university's main Campus. The hotel has been renovated recently and my room (3rd floor) was clean, bright and decorated in a modern, but not sterile way. Relieving with so many dark and carpet covered hotels still existing! The position between two secondary streets is quiet, while a lively square with several restaurants and cafès is just one block away. The breakfast wasn't exciting, but a well equipped buffet. Both receptionists, evening and morning were extremely kind and even borrowed me an electric boiler to make myself a herbal tea in the evening. Good value for money.

Small but centrally located, o....
The hotel is very close to the Congress Centre, a good 10 minutes’ walk, and that’s why I chose it.
There is no Parking and one rather takes public transport or a taxi.
The street and the outside of the hotel are not really inviting. However, the rooms of the hotel and the bathroom have been newly refurbished. They are clean, light and more than ok for a night.
The area is pretty quiet at night and sleep quality is good.
The very reasonable fee includes breakfast and there is a nice buffet in the morning.
All in all the Barbarossa is an ideal place to stay for one or two nights and a convention.

Good location and cheap but in....
Good location and cheap but incredibly small rooms. The smell of old smoke was also disturbing. Finally the scaffolding at the windows is the last touch to make you really uncomfortable. Would be OK for one night but it was quite depressing to stay a full week.
Note that the wifi is very fast.
