HORRIBLE OWNER BEWARE
This place gives terrible service from the owner Mr. Rapel of all people!! I stayed here on business while training with my company. The beds were hard and uncomfortable, the internet was terrible (I learned from a colleague that the owner actually slows it down when too many people are using it!), the room smelled bad, had no AC and was very hot, and the TV was smaller than my computer screen. The only decent thing was the breakfast and the nice girl serving it. Also, the other staff members were all pleasant.
I stayed 12 days solo and wanted to leave immediately but every hotel in Friedrichshafen was booked due to holiday so I had to endure. When my wife arrived to join me she understood why I was complaining so much and called around to see if any other hotels were available. After a few days she found one significantly cheaper than this and with AC, working internet, and all around much more comfortable and accommodating. She called the front desk at Zeppelin to ask what the cancellation policy was and that was it, she didn't even complain, just said that we didn't need to stay longer. The owner said it was 90% of the room charge and would only refund 10% with a letter from the company.
When she relayed this to me I took issue and went to him myself and told him that I would not pay the cancellation due to poor accommodations. His reply was that this was my wife's fault and I was fine until she arrived!!! I assured him that I had been complaining throughout and that when I heard he was slowing the internet purposely that I could not tolerate this as I have a business to continue to run via internet after my daily training. By this time My colleagues had warned me of Mr. Rapel and their very bad dealings with him in the past.
He said he would not charge me for the cancelled days (via email to my company to save face with the big company I work for) but then proceeded to write a lie that my wife TOLD him her first day that she would not dare stay in a 3 star hotel, only a 4 star!! THIS CONVERSATION DID NOT HAPPEN, and she did not speak to him on her first day. What a shameful, disgraceful way to operate a business. Please take heed to the bad reviews here people, it is real. I only wish I had had another option form day one. I would give zero rating if it were optional.

Adequate but overpriced
2 night stay. Arrived late on the first evening to a stifling hot bedroom with no aircon or even a fan. Room was in basement level with a patio door which opened onto a 'communal' area so that wasnt an option. Rang reception for a fan to be told I could have one the next day and to open my patio door - not likely.
Fan was provided next day.
Room was decent size and clean, but very basic. Breakfast was ok but again basic. Hotel is overpriced but when everywhere else is full.........

So bland, boring, and not even that good of a deal!
I slept OK, but room was hot, chairs in room uncomfortable. no desk or anything...
The location is nice, you can easily walk down to the lake no problem, but I wouldnt stay here again

Horible Customer service.
The owner (manager) Mr. Wolfgang Rapel had coarse words for me when I asked him to help me with my reservation while staying there for a business meeting where I was suppose to get a better rate. Not only did Mr. Rapel cheat me out of that, he also charged me and a co-worker and extra $50 euro when our flight was delayed, and we arrived late.
Mr. Rapel again had coarse words for my co-worker when we arrived late, and followed that up with an equally offensive e-mail.
Avoid this Hotel if you can.

Stay at Hotel Zeplin
We had a wonderful wedding weekend for my niece, and everything was made even more special by the efforts of the staff, especially, Jill. She absolutely made our experience much better, calmer, more organized and fun. I had gotten a room for my husband & myself and my three daughters & significant others, each had room that we had gotten for them too. One of my daughters has children and needed a lot of questions answered and had been calling Jill for months before our trip. I was planning a dinner and got perfect suggestions from Jill for that event. We all felt like she was an old friend by the time we actually met! What more could you want? My husband and I travel a lot and I must say, Jill gives "world class service." How wonderful for Zeplin to have someone like that on staff. And I must say all the staff, from bellmen to housekeeping, were so friendly and helpful. Another special shout out to Sam, who made everyone so comfortable too! . I will always recommend your awesome boutique hotel with warm & wonderful help and an amazing SF atmosphere!
