Cold, sunny and Christmassy!
Just spent 3 days in Baden-Baden to visit the lovely Christmas market.
We stayed at the Hotel Etol which is close to the market and town centre but in a quiet little cul de sac.
The hotel is welcoming, cosy and the staff are delightful. They had decorated it beautifully for Christmas.
Our room 203 was spacious, warm, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The bathroom had usual shower gel/shampoo but also shaving and dental kits. Plenty of towels and hot water.
There was a mini bar and complimentary water and soft drinks.
Large flat screen tv, a safe and satisfactory wifi.
Breakfast was in a cosy dining room with extensive choice of cereal, fresh fruit, meat and cheeses and excellent coffee.
This is only a 3* hotel but it is truly a little gem and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Location Location Location
Small Boutique Hotel centrally located, cosy, quiet with a wonderful Breakfast. Maria at Reception was just adorable. We stayed 2 days end of December and had a wonderful quiet and romantic stay. Walking distance from everything there is to do in Baden Baden including the spas we can't wait to return

Great location but room for im....
We visited on our holiday to Baden Baden in December. Let's start with the pros. This hotel has the perfect location in central Baden Baden. You can walk within minutes to everything...the Christmas Market, the spas, the casino, and all the great shopping and dinning. Additionally the room (the suite) was spacious and clean. In terms of the cons...the lady that checked us in wasn't overly hospitable and was somewhat short with us. She didn't take the time to explain the hotel lodging tax (surprise extra on your bill in Baden Baden) as well as the parking situation. We had a spot reserved on the first day but they didn't have room for our car the second day. We found a local garage on our own without any help. The biggest issue with our stay was the smell of the room. No matter how much we aired out the room by opening the windows (in freezing temps), the place still smelled musty (think bad smelling food or cat food). We had to keep our luggage shut the whole time to keep our clothes from smelling bad too.
The design of the room was very unique and outdated. Our suite had purple carpet and the ceilings were painted pink with custom artwork from the 80s. Rick Steve's says it is "tasteful" however I disagree.
I wouldn't stay here again, however the price and location were spot on. They just need to deep clean and work on their friendliness and hospitality.

Good points and bad, but good ....
My wife and have visited Baden Baden about once a year for the last 7 years, usually just for a weekend, as was the case here. We've stayed in a few different places, usually in the more moderate price range. We include the Etol in this category.
When we arrived it turns out we were only just in time. The reception closes at 8pm and we had failed to notice that in the Booking.com fine print.
The rooms were *huge* and lofty, very airy. The location is also central (5 mins walk to the main promenade) but simultaneously quiet since it's tucked into a courtyard. The decor is however somewhat old and faded, and the bathrooms clean but aged. It almost has a "Grand Hotel Budapest" feel to it, although located down an alleyway ;)
The walls were too thin and we were bothered by noise from the other guests arriving and departing early.
Parking is also private (some modest cost) but I would call ahead to make sure you get something. We were lucky. It's also a *very* tight entrance arch, so don't attempt this with a wide car. A redeeming feature is that the hostess, despite knocking off at 8pm, rang us up in our room asking if it was our car with the headlights left on. I dashed out to take a look, but it turned out to be the car next to ours. There was a lady leaning out a 2nd story window as I went to check, and she asked me if it was ours. I said no, and apparently she then rang back to the room to apologise for disturbing us.
So apart from the early reception close, and dated (but massive!) rooms with no soundproofing, it was actually pretty good value for Baden Baden.

The front desk lady was just s....
We thought it was a a nice stay there at first but on our last day the front desk lady from the hotel spoilt our holiday. She sold us the vouchers for the thermen for four hours so it would mean we would have to leave come back for the car one hour after the check out time. The lady agreed on that first and later changed her mind apparantly and spoilt it all. When we came back to bring the towels from the thermen they gave us to use and take our car, she was very rude. There were no other cars parked and she kept shouting that we had to take the car one hour earlier as the hotel was fully booked even though the check in time is from 14:00. But outsider the hotel there was a sign: rooms to let. She was so rude and mad and spoilt our whole summer holiday. It is not how people should be treated. Moreover, she did not even think that afterwars we had a very long, a very tiring and demanding trip back home with a small child. There are mean people in this would!! She definitely SHOULD NOT be working with people! So disappointed in that. Even though we spent 5 days there in total. Just mean and disgraceful! Worst experience in years!
