We stayed from 20-23 Aug 2012 primarily for a place to sleep while visiting Disneyland and Paris attractions; we found it more than just a place to stay. We experienced what we consider an extraordinarily positive situation after our stay. More about that later...
SERVICE & LOCATION: We found the service beyond our expectations. During the stay the staff was friendly and extra helpful taking into consideration our lack of knowledge of the French language. Nearby places to eat, grocery store, pharmacy, pretty much everything we needed while we were there, including the complimentary internet.
LINEN/TOWELS: Our bedding linen and towels were fresh and we were asked whether we wanted clean towels after being hermits and having left the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door every day.
FACILITY: Regarding the facility, we did not expect a gated and password coded entry for the premises and the building proper after regular hours. Security always a plus... My wife found the room temperature cold, I thought it was a little warm... you get the picture. Kids loved the bunk beds; it was perfect for our family; plenty of plugs to charge iPods, cameras, laptops, ... and we loved the little swing open back door that gave us direct access to our vehicle, some extra privacy and ventilation.
SECURING VALUABLES: We thought it was a tad odd that after asking whether we could store my wife's $3,000 camera in the manager's office or safe, that front desk suggested they were confident with the security and that we can leave the camera in the room while we did our touristy thing. We found out later where they were coming from.
On our way out about 2 hours into the drive back to Barcelona, I realized I did not have my iPad2. I was mortified! Yes, I left (and most likely will never see again) my $800+ dollar electronic device (I am a lawyer and have personal and some confidential info on the unit), but more to the heart is that the iPad2 was covered with a hand-made top grade leather cover with custom suede liner. The iPad2 custom cover matched my custom made briefcase (also with custom suede liner) that happened to be a gift from my in-laws and wife's grandmother that took 2+ years to acquire - unique, expensive and super sentimental.
Kyriad housecleaning found the iPad2 exactly where I left it tucked under one of the mattresses inside the linen and simply turned it into the manager who promptly put it in the hotel safe. But it does not stop there. The manager expressed mailed me the iPad2 to Barcelona and it arrived within hours. From "mortified" to elated!
The manager seemed non-chalant about it, that it was business as usual with them. He would not even give me his manager's contact info so I could thank his leadership and say something nice.
Dude, it was huge. My wife (who is Russian) rated the facility "just right!" and felt that the service was ABOVE and beyond. I feel glad that as we rushed to leave the hotel to make it out by check out time, that my wife sent me back in to tip the housekeeping before I ran off and forgot.
Oh and forgot mention that while driving from Barcelona to France, we realized that we might arrive past check in time later into the evening. We called and were dealt with professionally and given a plan B. It was great.
I am an American and we live in Saudi Arabia, were just on vacation and have seen and experienced a few things and places. Take it from us, Kyriad - Chelles was a place we found exactly what we wanted and more.
No question whether I would recommend this hotel.
