Nice rooms, awful restaurant
I picked this hotel last minute as the weather wAs good and the fact that they had a pool and outdoor seating area sold me. Sadly the pool area was NOTHING like the glossy website photos. A lot of the furniture you could see were in storage and lots of weeds in the outdoor areas. It’s was generally just very untidy and not as I was expecting. The biggest dissapoitment however was the restaurant. And whether or not it’s run by a 3rd party group or not I’m not sure, but it is an awful reflection of holiday inns brand. The food was overpriced and just simply bad. Thankfully the rooms helped a little, as they are decent, but the location (unless you are arriving late by car) is not good and the pool and restaurant really drag this place down.

We realised when we finally got there why the weekend deal was so good, too far out, from the airport had to take Train, Metro and a Bus not much fun.we did get to grips eventually with the transport system,so wished we had used it to get back to Airport but thought we would treat ourselves as had an extra bag, ordered 1 at reception as had read on-line it would be €50 what a shock when we got to airport to be told €100 double on Sundays apparently.so be wary of taking a Taxi, would have been nice if hotel had advised, Hotel is what it is comfortable, clean pleasant staff.

Clean hotel with good rooms an....
We stayed in this hotel for three nights to go around The city of Lyon. It is about 5 Km from the city centre wich can be reached by bus (no 19) which stops just a few yards outside the hotel. Alternatively you can take a choice of two buses from the same stop to the Metro station which is about 2 Km away. With such good connections, well explained to us by the hotel reception we had no issues staying slightly away from yhe city centre and leave the car in the hotel’s underground car park. Two days we travelled to the city we bought a travel card from the bus driver which allowed unlimited access for 24 hours in any bus, tram, metro and the funicular. As for the hotel the room and the common areas are very clean. The bathroom and the toilet are in separate adjesvent rooms. The exhaust in the toilet didn’t appear to be functioning. Although I reported the matter to the reception on the second day morning nothing was done about it till we left the following day. The breakfast was nothing exceptional, just basic. We had dinner on the first evening and there was only one vegetarian item, vegetable lasagne which was acceptable. I would have thougt introducing two or three choice for vegetarians wouldn’t take much of an effort. While the reception staff were friendly and helpful the dining room staff lacked the expected warmth. On the whole the stay was comfortable and worth considering for a short stay.

After a day travelling and spending hours stuck in traffic, we were tired and hungry on arrival. We couldn’t find the restaurant hours on the website but saw that if the restaurant was closed there was a list of snacks.
We arrived just after 22h00 (literally about 22h08) to be told that the restaurant stopped serving at 22h. We asked about the snacks which was followed by a sketch of the receptionist wedging open the door of a store cupboard with an ironing board and fishing out square boxes of soup (which we later found out would have cost us over 8€ each!). That was our only choice apparently. We asked if he knew of anywhere around the hotel. No nothing, we could drive somewhere but he couldn’t help us with any local knowledge, didn’t offer a map etc.
Thanks to google maps and about 20 minutes wasted searching we found a pizzeria. When we arrived at the pizzeria they said unfortunately they were closing. However, after explaining our plight the owner thankfully said we could order quickly for takeaway.
We also booked an executive room and received confirmation, but were given a family room.
This is not the standards we are used to with holiday inn, the quality and service was akin to a cheap budget hotel and certainly not the treatment a Spire Elite member would expect.
